Context

Organic salts are formed from the complete neutralization reaction between organic acids and bases. Therefore, their nomenclature comes from the combination of the cation from the base with the anion from the acid. Understanding the formation and nomenclature of organic salts is essential for the comprehension of many chemical reactions that occur in everyday life and in the industry, whether in the production of medications, preservatives, biodiesel, among others.

In this project, we will delve into the universe of organic salts and learn about nomenclature, their formation, and application. It is an opportunity to apply Chemistry knowledge in a concrete way, relating it to real situations and understanding its importance for life and modern technology.

Introduction

The nomenclature of organic salts is based on the nomenclature of the acids from which they derive. Therefore, one of the key concepts in this learning process is to understand how organic acids are named. We will learn that carboxylic acids, for example, form the class of compounds that originate most organic salts, in addition to sulfonic and phosphonic acids.

Another essential concept is the understanding of the neutralization reaction, which results in the formation of the salt. We must remember that a base and an acid, when reacting, form a salt and water, which also happens with organic acids and bases. These concepts will be fundamental for the realization of the proposed experiments.

From there, we will understand the logic behind the nomenclature of organic salts. They are simple rules, but they require attention and practice, especially when dealing with salts derived from acids with more than one functional group.
