Contextualization
We live in a world where chemistry plays a fundamental role, but often goes unnoticed. Nitriles and isonitriles are great examples of this. They are classes of organic compounds with specific structures that affect their properties and reactivity. In this project, we will delve into the world of these compounds and explore their characteristics and implications in our daily lives.
Nitriles are organic compounds that contain a cyano group (C≡N). They are produced on a large scale in industries as components for the production of high-performance materials, medicines, and agrochemicals. Despite their numerous applications, they are poorly studied in schools.
Isonitriles, on the other hand, are isomers of nitriles, with the structure R-N≡C. They have a different structure from nitriles, which generates unique chemical properties that are explored in organic syntheses. Although less known and studied, isonitriles have interesting applications in the pharmaceutical industry.
Understanding these compounds and their properties is essential for understanding many industrial and pharmaceutical chemical processes. In this project, we will investigate these compounds and explore their chemical properties, production methods, industrial applications, and implications for health and the environment.
