Contextualization

The English language is a language of broad importance in modern society. Whether in science, business, travel, or even in art, mastering this language is a considerable asset. One of the basic aspects of learning English is understanding vocabulary. Here we will focus on vocabulary related to animals, plants, and parts of the human body.

In this sense, our activity will aim at learning this vocabulary in a playful and interactive way, also strengthening teamwork skills. Collaboration will be essential, as the work will be done in groups and the final result will depend on joint effort.

Introduction

In this project, groups will create an 'English Memory Game.' This game will consist of pairs of cards, one containing an image (of an animal, plant, or part of the human body) and the other, the corresponding name in English. The goal is to find the pairs by matching the image with the correct name. This dynamic will stimulate learning through association, so that students will be able to connect an image to a word in a playful and memorable way.

Before proceeding to the step-by-step, students can refer to reliable online learning materials aimed at Portuguese speakers who want to learn English. Some examples include the website English Experts, which provides a series of resources for learning English, including vocabulary. Another interesting resource is the Duolingo app, which provides an interactive interface for language learning, including English.

Take the opportunity to delve into these resources and learn more about animals, plants, and parts of the human body in English.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Memory Game in English

Project Objective

Practice the vocabulary of animals, plants, and parts of the human body in English through the creation of a 'Memory Game.' The game will allow students to visually associate the corresponding words and images, as well as promote collaboration and teamwork.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for selecting and researching 50 English words related to the topics of animals, plants, and parts of the human body. The chosen words will be used to create a memory game. For each word, students will create two cards: one with the corresponding image and another with the word in English.

Each game must have 100 cards in total (50 pairs), with each pair consisting of a card with the corresponding image and another card with the word in English. The game will be played by trying to find pairs, matching the image with the correct word.

Required Materials

  1. Blank cards (100 per group)
  2. Printer (to print the images)
  3. Colored pens
  4. Computer with Internet access
  5. Textbooks or reliable English learning websites

Step-by-Step

  1. Groups should research and select 50 words related to animals, plants, and parts of the human body in English. It is recommended to use textbooks, reliable English learning websites, or even language learning apps.

  2. For each chosen word, print a corresponding image. If printing is not possible, students can draw the image on the card.

  3. On a separate card, write the English word that corresponds to the image.

  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all 50 pairs of cards are complete.

  5. Shuffle all the cards and place them face down. The memory game is ready to be played!

Project Deliverables

In addition to the memory game, each group must deliver a detailed report. The report should have the following sections:

  1. Introduction: In this section, students should contextualize the project and explain its importance. They should explain how the project helped them learn the vocabulary of animals, plants, and parts of the human body in English.

  2. Development: Here, students should explain the process of creating the memory game. They should detail the research done, the words chosen, and the images used. Students should also discuss how they worked as a team, what difficulties they encountered, and how they solved them.

  3. Conclusions: In this section, students should reflect on what they learned from the project. They can discuss the main takeaways, what they thought of the process, and how they hope to use the knowledge gained in the future.

  4. Bibliography: Finally, students should mention the sources they used to learn and research the words. This may include textbooks, websites, language learning apps, etc.

The report and the memory game must be delivered within a week. Both will be evaluated for both content and the socio-emotional skills demonstrated during the project, such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.
