In today's globalized world, fluency in English is an essential skill for various situations, whether in academic, professional, or even everyday life environments. Within the learning of the English language, vocabulary mastery is a fundamental aspect. Vocabulary consists of all the words of a language and is the basis for any form of communication. Without a rich vocabulary, the possibilities of expression and comprehension are limited.

In this project, we will address vocabularies from three categories: animals, plants, and parts of the human body. These are basic themes that frequently appear in different conversational and reading contexts. Furthermore, the vocabulary of these topics allows us to explore various areas of knowledge, such as biology and health, expanding learning perspectives.

Project Importance

By developing a solid vocabulary in these areas, students will not only improve their English communication skills but also learn about biological diversity and human anatomy. This knowledge is useful not only for enhancing language skills but also for developing a sense of curiosity about the natural world. Additionally, teamwork will require students to enhance their cooperation and communication skills, which are essential in any environment.

The ability to work well in groups and solve problems as a team is an increasingly valued skill in today's job market. This is especially true in multicultural environments, where professionals must be able to communicate effectively in English. Therefore, this project not only reinforces English vocabulary but also develops important socio-emotional skills for the students' future.

Practical Activity: "The World in Words"

Activity Title:

"BioVocab - Discovering the World Through English Vocabulary"

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is to develop an illustrated guide in English that presents a variety of animals, plants, and parts of the human body through research, content production, and collaborative graphic design.

Detailed Project Description:

Groups, with 3 to 5 students each, will be assigned to create an illustrated guide presenting 15 animals, 15 plants, and 10 parts of the human body. Each entry in the guide must contain the English name, a description, and a hand-drawn or digitally created illustration. The description should include the word's translation into Portuguese, a context for word usage, and general information about the animal, plant, or part of the human body in question.

Required Materials:

• Computer with internet access for research.
• Text and image editing software (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Paint, Adobe Illustrator, or similar).
• Drawing materials, if choosing to make hand illustrations.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. Task Division: Each group must evenly divide the topics (animals, plants, and parts of the human body) among its members.

2. Research: Each student must conduct research to select the words they will include in the guide and gather relevant information about them.

3. Content Writing: Based on the research, each student must write the descriptions of their words in English.

4. Illustration: Alongside step 3, students must start producing illustrations for each of their words.

5. Review: The entire team must jointly review the content and illustrations, enhancing the guide's quality.

6. Final Assembly: Using the chosen editing software, students must assemble the final guide.

7. Report Preparation: The group must begin writing the project report, following the provided guidelines.

Written Document:

The document should be structured into four main parts:

1. Introduction: The group will highlight the activity's importance and emphasize its objective. Here, students will briefly discuss the vocabulary of animals, plants, and parts of the human body in the context of the English language.

2. Development: Students will detail each project step, from the initial research to the final guide assembly. The group will also discuss the challenges encountered and how they resolved them. They should elaborate on the methodology used, especially regarding task division and the research and creation process. Finally, they will present the guide as the final result and discuss its significance.

3. Conclusions: The group will reflect on the project experience, emphasizing the main learnings, both about the studied vocabulary and teamwork, time management, and other socio-emotional aspects involved.

4. Bibliography: The group must list all sources consulted during the research and guide preparation.

The report and the final illustrated guide will be the two deliverables of this project. The report should be submitted in digital format, along with the illustrated guide, which can be done digitally or by hand (scanned or photographed in this case).
