Geomorphology is an area of Geography that studies the forms of the Earth's surface. These forms are created and modified by a set of processes, categorized as endogenous and exogenous agents. Endogenous agents are linked to the Earth's internal movements, such as volcanism and tectonics, while exogenous agents are related to phenomena that occur on the surface, such as wind action, water, living beings, among others.

To understand the world we live in, it is necessary to comprehend the mechanisms that shape our natural landscape. Knowing how mountains form, why plains exist, how rivers alter the terrain are fundamental questions that the study of endogenous and exogenous agents helps us answer.

We will address the theory of plate tectonics, the endogenous and exogenous forces, the main types of erosion, as well as a brief description of the morphostructural provinces of Brazil. Through this project, you will have the opportunity to delve into the understanding of the geological processes that shape the Earth.

Geomorphology also has several practical applications, from predicting and mitigating natural disasters to urban and rural planning. Whether to understand the dynamics of floods, assess slope stability and prevent landslides, or to plan the best location for roads, geomorphology offers fundamental tools. We will go into detail on how these processes influence our daily lives, economy, and society.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Mapping the Impact of Endogenous and Exogenous Agents

Project Objective: Identify and analyze the effects of endogenous and exogenous agents in a specific region, understanding how they shape the terrain and interfere with the lives of local communities.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will form groups of 3 to 5 people and choose a specific geographical region (it can be a country, a state, a city, or even a neighborhood, for example). Once the location is chosen, students should identify and analyze the main endogenous and exogenous agents acting in that area and how they affect the terrain and the local community. Students should consider aspects such as geological events, climate, human activities, vegetation, among others.

Materials Needed:

• Internet access for research;
• Physical and political maps of the studied region;
• Materials for presentation (Can be slides, posters, etc).

Step-by-step for carrying out the activity:

1. Form groups and decide on the region to be studied.
2. Conduct a literature review to understand the geological and geomorphological characteristics of the chosen region.
3. Identify the main endogenous and exogenous agents acting in the region and research how they affect the local landscape.
4. Research how the terrain influences the lives of people living in the region, considering aspects such as the economy, culture, urban and rural development, etc.
5. Prepare a report and a presentation that synthesizes all the findings.

Project Deliverables:

Document Writing: After completing the practical activity, each group must write a written report containing:

1. Introduction: Contextualization of the theme, relevance, real-world application, and project objective. They must also present the chosen region and justify the choice.
2. Development: Explanation of the theory of endogenous and exogenous agents, detailed description of the activity carried out, and presentation of the results obtained. The methodology used in the research should also be described in this topic.
3. Conclusion: Critical reflection on the results obtained, learnings, and conclusions drawn about the influence of endogenous and exogenous agents in the studied region.
4. Bibliography: List, in ABNT format, of the sources consulted for the elaboration of the work.

The Presentation: Each group must develop a presentation (can be in the form of slides, posters, etc) that synthesizes the project's findings. The presentation should be organized logically and didactically, facilitating the understanding of the viewers.

Success in carrying out this project will require students to have technical skills (such as the ability to conduct literature research, analyze data, synthesize information, and communicate efficiently) and socio-emotional skills (such as teamwork, time management, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity).
