Geography is a science that studies the relationship between mankind and the environment in which it lives, seeking to understand the natural and human processes that occur in the geographic space. It is divided into several areas, such as Physical Geography, which studies the phenomena of nature, and Human Geography, which studies social, cultural, and economic relations.

One of the main foundations of Geography is the concept of geographic space, which can be understood as the space built and modified by human action. Another fundamental concept is that of place, which is the space that has acquired meaning and identity for a group of people.

The project that will be developed aims to deepen the knowledge of these and other fundamental concepts of Geography, using a playful and collaborative approach, with the intention of making the learning process more engaging and meaningful.

Geography plays an essential role in our daily lives. It helps us understand the environment in which we live, the social and economic relations we establish, the cultural differences that exist between different places, and the way our actions impact the environment.

Understanding the fundamentals of Geography is essential for understanding the great challenges of our time, such as climate change, social inequality, accelerated urbanization, among others. In addition, Geography also provides us with the tools to understand the cultural and geographical diversity of our planet, helping us to value and respect differences.

Title of Activity: "Our Geography at Stake"

Objective of Project

The objective of this project is to create a board game that illustrates the main fundamental concepts of Geography, including geographic space, place, territory, and border. The game should stimulate creativity, encouraging students to learn these concepts and apply them in a fun and playful way.

Detailed Description of Project

The students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, must create a board game that illustrates the fundamental concepts of Geography. The game must have a central theme (e.g.: migration, urbanization, globalization) and its rules must reflect the geographic concepts studied.

Each space on the board should represent a geographic event that influences the dynamics of the game. For example, if the game is about migration, each space could represent an obstacle or facilitator of the migratory process, such as borders, migration policies, socioeconomic differences, etc.

Materials Needed

• Cardstock or other material for making the board
• Tokens or pieces for the players
• Dice
• Colored pens, colored pencils, or paint
• Scissors and glue

Step-by-Step for Carrying Out the Activity

1. Form your group of 3 to 5 participants.
2. Choose a central theme for the game.
3. Research the chosen theme and identify the main geographic concepts related to it.
4. Design the board and create the rules of the game. Remember to include elements that reflect the Geography concepts studied.
5. Make the board, tokens/pieces, and other components of the game.
6. Test the game and make any necessary adjustments.
7. Prepare a presentation for the class, where you will explain the theme of the game, the rules, and how the geographic concepts were incorporated.

Project Deliverables

At the end of the activity, the students must deliver the physical board game and a written report.

The report must include the following items:

1. Introduction: Describe the theme chosen for the game and its relevance in Geography. Explain the objective of the project.
2. Development: Explain in detail the theory of the chosen geographic concepts. Describe the activity carried out, from the conception of the game to its completion, specifying the methodology used in the development of the project.
3. Conclusions: Point out the main learnings obtained from the project and the conclusions drawn about the activity.
4. Bibliography: List the sources consulted for the development of the project, including books, web pages, videos, etc.

The report must be written in a clear and objective manner, demonstrating the understanding of the geographic concepts and their application in the project. It should also highlight the teamwork and time management.
