At that time, the region, which was dominated by pagan tribes, witnessed the emergence of a monotheistic faith through the prophet Muhammad, becoming the second largest religion in the world in terms of followers. Islam, which encompasses vast areas of human knowledge, has a significant influence on various spheres of life in many countries, including politics, economy, culture, art, and science.

Islam, in its origin, combined different traditions, resulting in a vast civilization that spread from West Africa to India in just a few hundred years. This was the result of both military conquests and conversions. The unity and diversity of the Islamic world are part of its complex history and rich cultural heritage.

Importance of Studying Islam

Studying Islam is of great importance to understand not only the history and culture of Muslim peoples, but also to comprehend the contemporary world, where issues related to Islam are frequently present. Understanding the multifaceted aspects of Islam and its development throughout history is therefore an essential tool for a better understanding of the diversity and complexity of the world we live in.

Knowing the doctrines, traditions, and expansion of Islam helps to unravel the roots of many current conflicts, such as the constant tensions in the Middle East, as well as providing a better understanding of the art, literature, and culture of various societies around the world. In addition, it contributes to the development of tolerance and respect for diversity.

Practical Activity: 'Birth and Expansion of Islam: A Journey Through Time'

Project Objective:

To learn about the origin of Islam and how it spread throughout the world since the 7th century, understanding its culture, economy, art, politics, and science.

Detailed Description:

This activity will be a field trip, a true journey through time. Each group of 3 to 5 students will be responsible for researching, preparing, and presenting a key scenario from the period of the birth and expansion of Islam.

The scenarios will be assigned to the groups, and each will delve into their topic. The groups must work together to present their scenarios in a playful and educational way. Each group can use dramatizations, poems, drawings, music, or any other artistic resource to present their scenario to their peers.

The scenarios are:

1. The pre-Islamic scenario in the Arabian Peninsula.
2. The birth of Islam and the life of the prophet Muhammad.
3. The initial expansion of Islam and military conquests.
4. Islam at its cultural and scientific peak (Islamic Golden Age).
5. The current situation of Islam and its modern challenges.

Required Materials:

• Books, websites, documentaries, and various online resources about Islam.
• Art materials for illustrations and/or items for dramatizations.
• Camera or smartphone to record the presentations.

Step by Step:

1. Students should be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people.
2. Each group will receive a scenario to research and present.
3. After the research, each group must plan how to present their scenario to their peers in a playful and instructive manner.
4. The presentations should be recorded for later evaluation.
5. Finally, each group must write a detailed report on the project implementation process and its results.

Project Delivery:

1. Scenario presentation (Recording of the presentation).
2. Written report, containing the following sections:

• Introduction: Should contextualize the scenario that the group researched, as well as the importance and application of studying Islam in the contemporary world.
• Development: Include the theory behind the researched scenario, explain the methods used for research and presentation preparation, as well as the results.
• Conclusion: Discuss what the group learned from the project, the challenges and successes during the process.
• Bibliography: Cite all sources used for research.

These materials should be submitted for the teacher's evaluation.

This project is intended to require more than twelve hours of dedication per student, during the preparation of the presentation and report.
