History and Its Role

It is considered a science because its methodology is based on the critical analysis of primary sources to understand the past, leading to the formation of a coherent narrative about events, ideas, and people. Because it is an interpretative study, history is not an exact science and is open to various interpretations.

History is not limited to major events or notable figures, but also encompasses the daily lives of societies. Micro-history, for example, is a subfield that seeks to understand how ordinary people lived, thought, and behaved in their daily lives. This type of history values individual experiences and the diversity of human experiences.

Another aspect of history is the History of Thought. This field focuses on the analysis of ideas and concepts that have shaped and continue to shape our understanding of the world. Philosophical, political, cultural, and even scientific ideas are studied in their historical context to understand their origin, evolution, and impact on society.

The Importance of History

Studying history is essential to understand who we are, where we come from, and where we can go. Through history, it is possible to understand the evolution of our society and culture, the struggles and achievements of our ancestors, the mistakes and successes that have brought us to this point. Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow students to understand the interpretative nature of history while developing research skills, source analysis, collaboration, critical thinking, and writing. This project will provide students with a deeper insight into how historical events, philosophical ideals, and geographical, political, economic, social, environmental, and cultural circumstances influence our perception of the world today.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for selecting a period of history, a people or nation, and a basic political concept to study in depth.

The group must research and document the formation of the selected people/nation, understand the political concept within the chosen historical context, and interpret the different narratives and sources about that historical period. Research should be conducted across various sources, including books, historical documents, interviews, videos, films, and reliable websites.

Each group must create an interactive multimedia presentation representing their understanding of the chosen historical period. This may include a video documentary, a theatrical performance, an interactive website, among others. This presentation should reflect the critical analysis of sources and the interpretation of different narratives.

Additionally, each group must prepare a detailed report on the project, containing the four main topics: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.

Required Materials

• Books, historical documents, interviews, videos, films, and reliable websites for research.
• Technological resources for creating the multimedia presentation (camera, computer, editing software, etc.).
• Materials for writing the report (computer, writing programs, etc.).

Detailed Step-by-Step Guide for Carrying Out the Activity

1. Theme Selection: Each group must select a period of history, a people/nation, and a political concept to study in depth.
2. Research: Students must conduct in-depth research on their theme, using various sources.
3. Analysis and Interpretation: Students must analyze the sources and interpret the different narratives about the chosen historical period.
4. Creation of the Multimedia Presentation: Each group must create an interactive multimedia presentation that visually represents their understanding of the chosen historical period.
5. Writing the Report: Each group must prepare a detailed report on the project, following the previously mentioned topics (Introduction, Development, Conclusion, and Bibliography).

The written document should complement the practical work as follows:

• Introduction: Here, students should contextualize the chosen theme, explain its relevance in world history, and the project's objective.
• Development: In this topic, students should explain the theory behind the theme, describe the research methodology used, detail the creation of the multimedia presentation, and present their results.
• Conclusion: The conclusion should recap the main points of the project, mentioning what was learned and the final conclusions.
• Bibliography: All sources used or consulted should be listed here.
