Activity Title: "Independence Theater: Dramatizing Latin America"

Project Objective

This project aims to deepen the understanding of independence processes in Latin America through a playful and engaging approach. Additionally, it aims to develop socio-emotional skills such as communication, teamwork, proactivity, and creativity.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for choosing a Latin American country that went through the independence process in the 19th century. The group will research the independence process of this country and will produce a theater play involving key events and important figures that helped shape this process.

• Paper and pen for notes
• Various materials for scenography, costumes, and props.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Divide students into groups of 3 to 5 members.
2. Each group will choose a Latin American country to study its independence process.
3. The groups should start a detailed research on the independence process of their respective countries. This research should investigate key events, important figures, causes, and consequences of this independence, etc.
4. After the research, the groups should develop a theater play that represents the history of independence of the chosen country. This play should consist of a script, characters, and scenes that reflect the studied historical events and characters.
5. Next, the groups will rehearse the theater play.
6. Finally, each group will present their theater play to the class.
7. After the presentations, each group should prepare a written report, in which they will reflect on the project realization process and connect the learnings obtained with the theory of the studied independence histories.

Written Document

The written report should contain the following topics:

1. Introduction - The group should contextualize the theme of independences in Latin America, its relevance, the chosen country, and the project's objective.
2. Development - Here, students should detail the theory about the independence process of the chosen country, explain in detail how the project realization process was (research, script development, rehearsals, presentation), the methodology used, and finally, present and discuss the results obtained.
3. Conclusions - The group should revisit their main points, highlight the learnings obtained, and draw conclusions about the project. They should answer questions like: What does the history of the chosen country teach us about the broader experience of independence processes in Latin America? How did the experience of staging this story affect your understanding of the events?
4. Bibliography - The group should indicate the sources of information used to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The project should last for one month, with an estimated workload of five to ten hours per participating student.
