In this project, we will embark on a journey through time to understand the 'Decolonization of Africa and Asia,' one of the most relevant topics in modern history.

In the post-World War II period, many territories in Africa and Asia, previously under the control of European colonial powers, went through a process of fighting for independence. This process, called Decolonization, significantly marked the relationship between countries and peoples, bringing profound geopolitical and socio-economic changes that are still felt today.

Decolonization was not a uniform process. It occurred in various ways and for various reasons, depending on the territory and the political, economic, and social circumstances present. In some cases, it was peaceful and negotiated. In others, it was violent and resulted in wars of independence that left deep scars. Understanding these dynamics is essential to grasp the current configuration of the world.

The importance of the Decolonization of Africa and Asia goes beyond understanding the past. It helps us understand the present and envision the future. The process of Decolonization left a legacy of ethnic conflicts, economic inequalities, and political instabilities that still affect many countries in Africa and Asia. At the same time, it also brought new possibilities and challenges for building a more just and egalitarian world.

Our journey will be rich and full of learning. Although it may seem distant, the Decolonization of Africa and Asia is not disconnected from our reality. On the contrary, it is intrinsically linked to how we live, think, and interact with the world.

Practical Activity: 'The Path to Independence'

Project Objective

The main objective of this project is to stimulate historical investigation, interpretation of facts, creativity, and collaboration of students as they deepen their understanding of the decolonization of Africa and Asia.

Detailed Project Description

Each group of 3 to 5 students must choose two nations, one African and one Asian, that went through the process of decolonization. The task will be to explore, compare, and present the paths taken by these countries towards independence.

Required Materials

• Computer with internet access for research.
• Books and articles on the history of Asia and Africa.
• Text editing and presentation software (Microsoft Word and PowerPoint or Google Docs and Slides).
• Camera or smartphone for video recording (optional).

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Form your group and choose two nations (one African and one Asian) that went through the process of decolonization.

2. Start researching the decolonization of these two nations, using various reliable sources of information.

3. Organize the collected information into topics such as: historical context, the colonization process, resistance movements, decolonization process, main leaders, challenges, and achievements after independence.

4. Compare the paths to independence of the two countries. Discuss the similarities and differences found.

5. Develop a presentation that creatively narrates the journey of these countries towards independence. This presentation can be in the form of a written report, presentation slides, or even a short documentary filmed by you.

Project Deliverables and Connection with Activities

Students must deliver two final products:

1. The creative presentation on the decolonization of the two chosen countries, in the format of their preference (slides, written report, video, etc.).

2. A written report accompanying the presentation. This report should follow the following format:

• Introduction: Provide context on the decolonization of Africa and Asia. Describe the chosen countries and explain why they were selected. Emphasize the relevance of studying decolonization for understanding the current world.

• Development: Describe in detail the research conducted on the decolonization of the chosen countries. Explain the theory behind the project's central theme. Present and discuss the main results obtained, as well as the methodology used. Detail the preparation of the creative presentation and the main decisions made by the group.

• Conclusion: Summarize the main points covered in the work. Describe the team's learnings and the conclusions drawn from the project. How did studying the decolonization of the chosen countries impact the group's understanding of the history of Africa and Asia? What lessons about the current world were drawn from the project?

• Bibliography: List all sources used in the research and project preparation, including books, articles, websites, documentaries, etc.

Remember that the quality of the research, the depth of the analysis, the originality and creativity of the presentation, the clarity and organization of the written report, as well as the collaboration and equitable division of work in the team will be important aspects in evaluating the project.
