Football

Contextualization

Football, more than a sport, is a cultural phenomenon that moves passions, identities, and economies around the globe. Its origin dates back to the 19th century, in England, but its roots are even older, and can be associated with ball games practiced in ancient civilizations. With codified rules in 1863, the creation of the Football Association represented the initial milestone for the systematization of football as we know it today.

This sport is practiced in all continents and occupies a central space in the lives of millions of people. Football matches are not only an exercise in physical and tactical skill, but also in strategy, teamwork, and overcoming. Major football events, such as the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Champions League, attract global audiences and are capable of halting entire countries during their decisive matches.

In the Brazilian context, football is part of our cultural DNA. Brazil is known as the "country of football", with a rich history of five world titles, numerous legendary players, and a style of play that is recognized for its technique and beauty. The importance of football goes beyond the playing fields, influencing fashion, music, cinema, and even politics. It is a sport that transcends social barriers and unites people of different classes, races, and genders around a common passion.

In addition to its recreational and competitive aspects, football offers valuable lessons on leadership, resilience, cooperation, and fair play. Its study and practice assist in the development of essential socio-emotional skills not only on the field, but in various aspects of personal and professional life. Football teaches us about the importance of teamwork, respect for the opponent, and overcoming challenges. It is a rich metaphor for life and, as such, deserves a careful and reflective look.

To understand and delve deeper into the universe of football, I suggest that students use reliable resources such as:

  • Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF): The official website of the CBF offers updated information on the rules of the game, national competitions, and the Brazilian National Team.

  • FIFA: On FIFA's official website, students can find historical data on the World Cups, statistics, and information on world football.

  • National Digital Library of Brazil: A rich source of historical documents, including periodicals and images that report on the trajectory of football in Brazil.

  • Books and Documentaries: Works such as "Soccer in Sun and Shadow" by Eduardo Galeano and documentary series such as "Santos de Todos os Gols" available on streaming platforms can offer enriching perspectives on the sport.

Use these resources as a starting point for debates, analysis, and knowledge building on the subject.

Practical Activity

Activity Title

"Building a Mini-Football Championship: Study and Practice."

Project Objective

To analyze and apply the theoretical concepts of football through the organization and execution of a mini-championship, fostering collaboration, strategic planning, understanding of the rules, and the history of the sport.

Detailed Project Description

In this activity, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for organizing a small football competition, which will involve everything from creating adapted rules, planning games, to executing and managing the "event". The intention is for students to experience the theoretical concepts of football in practice and to learn the importance of collaboration and teamwork.

Required Materials

  • Footballs
  • Vests to differentiate the teams
  • Cones or other markers to delimit the field
  • Whistle
  • Notebook and pen to record activities
  • Camera or smartphone for audiovisual recording
  • Access to research resources (books, internet)

Detailed Step-by-Step

Part 1: Research and Planning (1 hour)

  1. Research the history of football, its rules, and major events.
  2. Define the adapted rules for the mini-championship (field size, game duration, number of players).
  3. Divide the tasks among the group members (referee, organizer, timekeeper, etc.).
  4. Develop a schedule for the games, considering the time available.

Part 2: Event Organization (1-2 hours)

  1. Prepare the physical space using cones and markers.
  2. Organize a game table with times and participating teams.
  3. Invite other classes to participate as players or fans.
  4. Record the entire organization process with photos and notes.

Part 3: Mini-Championship Execution (1 hour)

  1. Conduct the games according to the schedule, respecting the defined rules.
  2. Record the results, observations, and possible incidents.
  3. Document the games with photos and videos.

Part 4: Analysis and Reflection (1 hour)

  1. Bring the group together to discuss what worked and what can be improved.
  2. Select the best photos and video clips for the presentation.
  3. Prepare a report with observations, photos, and the results of the games.

Correction Criteria

Students will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Understanding and application of the rules of football.
  • Quality and creativity in the organization of the mini-championship.
  • Collaboration and teamwork.
  • Quality of the written report and the audiovisual materials produced.

Project Deliverables

Students must deliver:

  1. Written Report: Containing the four main sections (Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography), detailing the entire process carried out from planning to execution and analysis of the championship.

  2. Audiovisual Material: A compilation of photos and videos that document the experience.

  3. Championship Presentation: An oral presentation where the group reports on the experience, results, and learnings of the project.

How to Write the Written Document

  • Introduction: Contextualize the project, include the relevance of football, and the objective of organizing a mini-championship.

  • Development: Describe the theory studied about the sport and how it was applied in practice. Include the methodology, results, and a critical analysis of what occurred during the mini-championship.

  • Conclusions: Recap the main points, reflect on the lessons learned and the socio-emotional skills developed. Discuss the group's conclusions regarding the project, successes, and difficulties encountered.

  • Bibliography: List all sources of information used to understand the subject and to develop the project, including websites, books, documentaries, and other references.

Students should work in teams to divide the tasks and contribute equally to all stages of the project, with the final submission being a reflection of the joint effort and collaborative learning.
