Contextualization

The phenomenon of polarization is a property based on electromagnetic waves, with light being an example of these waves. Polarization is useful for many everyday applications, being observable, for example, in polarized sunglasses, in improving images on LCD televisions, and in the composition of some visual arts.

Light, as we know it, is an electromagnetic wave composed of oscillating electric and magnetic fields. These fields oscillate in planes perpendicular to each other and in the direction of wave propagation. In its natural form, light is considered unpolarized, meaning that the electric fields vibrate in various directions perpendicular to the propagation direction. Polarization occurs when we can make the light vibrate in only one plane.

Introduction

In our project, we will explore the theme of light polarization. To understand polarization, it is necessary to comprehend some basic concepts about electromagnetic waves and their properties. Initially, we will study how light behaves as a wave and see some of its characteristics, such as amplitude, frequency, and speed.

Next, we will delve into the concept of polarization. We will explain how physical processes and some technologies can polarize light. We will also discuss how polarization influences the behavior of light when passing through a transparent medium and how such a phenomenon can be mathematically described.

Finally, we will explore some practical applications of light polarization. We will analyze how polarization is used to improve the quality of images on devices like LCD TVs and how it can be applied to minimize reflections in sunglasses and photography.
