Introduction
Nominal agreement is the set of principles that govern the relationships between nouns and other words (articles, adjectives, pronouns, numerals). In Portuguese, this agreement is necessary for these words to agree in gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural) with the noun they refer to. It is an essential aspect of grammar to ensure the correctness and clarity of written and oral expression.
Correct nominal agreement helps to avoid communication errors, as this resource contributes to the clarity and effectiveness of the message, maintaining harmony and coherence among the words in a sentence. Furthermore, nominal agreement is fundamental to being correctly understood, given that the relationship between words in a sentence can completely alter its meaning.
Mastering nominal agreement is of utmost importance not only for academic life but also for the professional world. In many professions, correct and efficient writing is a valued skill and, in some cases, even required. Additionally, nominal agreement is essential for preparing for exams and competitions that have the Portuguese language as a subject.
Context
Nominal agreement is the basis for the correct understanding of Portuguese, as words need to be in harmony for the meaning of a sentence to be adequately decoded. However, many times we ignore or simply do not notice the agreement errors we make in our daily lives.
It is worth noting that nominal agreement is not an isolated rule but is part of a larger context, that of the Portuguese language. Thus, its study and understanding are not limited to theory alone but also to practice, through reading and text production. In this sense, this project aims not only to develop technical knowledge in nominal agreement but also to encourage reading and writing practice.
Activity
Activity Title: "Creative Theater of Nominal Agreement"
Project Objective:
To apply and practice the concepts of nominal agreement in a creative and collaborative way, through the elaboration and presentation of a theater play.
Detailed Project Description:
The idea is for students to create a script for a 15-minute theater play that illustrates various situations where nominal agreement is applied. They should also perform this play for their peers and teachers.
The script must be original, meaning it cannot be a simple transcription of an existing theater play. The script must be created by the group members, who should research and correctly apply the concepts of nominal agreement.
Furthermore, the play should explore at least five different situations where nominal agreement is essential for understanding the situation. Each situation must be explained to the audience before being demonstrated in the play.
Required Materials:
- Books and/or internet access for research
- Suitable location for rehearsals and play presentation
- If necessary, sets, costumes, and other props for the play
Step by Step:
- Group Formation: Students must form groups of 3 to 5 members.
- Research: Students must research the concepts and rules of nominal agreement in the provided resources and other reliable sources.
- Script Creation: Groups must create an original 15-minute play script, using the studied concepts correctly. Each group must also explain, clearly and objectively, how nominal agreement was applied in each situation of the play.
- Rehearsal and Refinement: Groups must rehearse the play, correct any flaws, and prepare for the presentation. If necessary, they can create sets, costumes, and other props to enhance the presentation.
- Presentation: Groups must present the play to their peers and teachers, explaining the nominal agreement situations before performing them.
Deliverables:
-
Play script, with clear and objective explanations of the nominal agreement situations.
-
Theater play presentation.
-
Final Report: after the play is performed, each group must write a report in document format following the following topics:
- Introduction: The student must contextualize the theme (nominal agreement), its relevance and real-world application, and the objective of this project.
- Development: The student must explain the theory behind the nominal agreement concepts used in the play, detail the activity (script development and play presentation), indicate the methodology used (research, script creation, rehearsal, and play presentation), and present and discuss the results obtained.
- Conclusion: The student must conclude the work by summarizing its main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project.
- Bibliography: The student must indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project, such as books, web pages, videos, etc.
