Practical Activity: "Spot the Errors: Verbal Concordance"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to provide familiarization with the rules of verbal concordance through a fun and playful activity, promoting collaborative learning, time management and innovation.

Project Description

The students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will have to create a "Spot the Errors: Verbal Concordance" game that consists of the following: the group must write a text of a genre of their choice (short story, chronicle, news, opinion article, etc.), containing several "errors" of verbal concordance intentionally inserted. Each error must be duly marked in a template, along with an explanation of the concordance rule that was violated. During the presentation of the work, the groups will exchange their texts and play the game of identifying the others' errors.

Necessary Materials

• Computer with internet access.
• Books, Portuguese handouts and/or other reference materials.
• Paper and pen to write the text and the template.

Step-by-Step Activity

1. Choice of textual genre: Each group chooses the textual genre they will work with. It is important that the text is long enough to allow for the insertion of an adequate number of "errors".

2. Writing the text and inserting the errors: The group writes the text and inserts the "errors" of verbal concordance intentionally. The group is encouraged to be creative and to use different types of errors, in order to address the various concordance rules.

3. Elaboration of the template: The group creates a template indicating each error inserted, the concordance rule that was violated and the correction.

4. Review of the text and the template: Before delivering the material, the group must carefully review the text and the template.

5. Presentation and game: The groups exchange the texts and play the "Spot the Errors" game. The objective is to identify all the errors inserted by the other group. The group that correctly identifies the most errors wins.

6. Final report: After the activity, each group must write a detailed report on the project. The report should address the following points:

   • Introduction: explanation of the theme of verbal concordance, relevance of the project for the understanding of the theme and objectives of the project.
   • Development: detailing the theory of the rules of verbal concordance, detailed description of the activity carried out, methodology used and discussion of the results obtained.
   • Conclusion: reflection on the lessons learned, difficulties encountered and solutions adopted, in addition to conclusions about the importance of verbal concordance.
   • Bibliography: references of the sources of information used in the project.

This project should be completed in one week. Each member of the group should spend about two to four hours to complete the work. The intention is to encourage collaboration among students, time management and proactivity, in addition to the understanding and practice of verbal concordance.
