Contextualization

Adverb, denotative words, and preposition are elements of Portuguese that permeate our vocabulary and are essential for the construction of expressive and coherent sentences. We use these linguistic elements to indicate circumstances in which an action occurs, to express our point of view (opinion, feelings, etc.), and to establish relationships between words or propositions. Therefore, understanding these structures is essential for effective communication.

Adverb

The adverb is an invariable class of words that modifies verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs, giving them a circumstance (manner, place, time, intensity, etc.). For example: Quickly (adverb of manner), here (adverb of place), yesterday (adverb of time), etc. It is an element of great importance in our language and it is what gives meaning to what we speak and write.

Denotative Words

Denotative words, known as CONNECTIVE WORDS, are used to express circumstances, conditions, causes, concessions, comparisons, consequences, purposes, proportions, time, and other situations. They are generally prepositions, adverbs, and conjunctions.

Preposition

The preposition is an invariable word that establishes a relationship between two or more terms in a sentence. This relationship is of a subordinative type, that is, between the elements linked by the preposition, one depends on the other. The preposition is used to establish a relationship of meaning, indicating place, time, manner, cause, purpose, etc.

Importance

Mastering the use of adverbs, denotative words, and prepositions is essential for writing and speaking correctly, as well as being a requirement for the correct interpretation of texts.

Studying and understanding these concepts is more than an academic requirement: it is a necessity for life. They are powerful communication tools that allow us to express ideas and feelings clearly and effectively, facilitating our interaction with the world and the people around us.

Practical Activity: "The Magical World of Grammar"

Project Objective

The objective of the project is to explore in a playful and collaborative way the use of adverbs, denotative words, and prepositions in the Portuguese language.

Detailed Project Description

Each group must produce a short film (5-10 minutes) that demonstrates the use and importance of adverbs, denotative words, and prepositions in a story. The story must be original, creative, and include a minimum of 10 adverbs, 10 denotative words, and 10 prepositions in a fluid and natural way.

Required Materials

• Camera (can be a cellphone camera)
• Writing material (computer or paper and pen)
• Internet access for research and/or video editing
• Video editing software (there are several free online alternatives)

Step by Step

1. Script Creation: Firstly, the group must create a script that tells an interesting story and includes the use of adverbs, denotative words, and prepositions. The story can be of any genre (comedy, drama, suspense, etc).

2. Research and Selection of Adverbs, Denotative Words, and Prepositions: During the script writing, students should research, select, and appropriately incorporate adverbs, denotative words, and prepositions into the text.

3. Filming: After the script is made, it will be time for filming. Here, creativity can be full, as long as the script is followed.

4. Video Editing: After filming, students should edit the video, ensuring that the story is cohesive and that the key words are clearly audible.

5. Final Report: The group must produce a final report, explaining the theory behind the concepts worked on, the methodology used to include these concepts in the story, the process of creating and producing the video, and a reflection on the learnings from the activity. The report should be structured following these topics: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.

Project Deliverables

1. Video: the produced video should be sent in a format that is easy to view (mp4, avi, etc). It will be the practical evidence of the studied concept.

2. Final Report: the written report (in Word, Google Docs, or similar) should include:

   • Introduction: A brief contextualization of the activity, its objectives, and its relevance.
   • Development: The group must explain the process of creating the script, how they identified and chose the adverbs, denotative words, and prepositions. They should also discuss the filming and editing process.
   • Conclusions: The students should reflect on what they learned from the project, identify the main challenges faced, and how they were overcome.
   • Bibliography: Indicate the sources that helped in the preparation of the project.

The goal is that, at the end of the project, the group can demonstrate not only the theoretical knowledge acquired but also the practical learning of the concepts worked on and the development of socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and time management.
