The Portuguese language, like all other languages, has a peculiarity which is the structuring of its sentences. A fundamental characteristic of these structures is the presence of essential elements, called essential terms of the sentence. Among these terms, the predicate and the predicative stand out. This project will delve into these two terms, exploring their characteristics and applications.

The predicate is the term of the sentence that contains the verb and provides information about the subject. It can be classified as: verbal predicate (when the nucleus is a verb that is not a linking verb), nominal predicate (when the nucleus is a noun, usually accompanied by a linking verb), and verb-nominal predicate (when it has two nuclei, a verb that is not a linking verb and a noun).

The predicative is the term that is linked to a noun (subject or object) through a linking verb, attributing a quality or characteristic to it. It can be classified as predicative of the subject and predicative of the object.

Contextualization

Understanding the essential terms of the sentence, especially the concepts of predicate and predicative, is extremely important in the study of the Portuguese language. These concepts are used both in grammatical analysis and in text production, contributing to efficient and clear communication.

Furthermore, these concepts are widely applied in various fields of knowledge, such as the humanities, exact sciences, and biological sciences, and are essential for the understanding and production of various types of texts, from literary to technical.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Unraveling Predicates and Predicatives in the World Around Us

Project Objective:

This project aims to help students recognize and understand the functionality of predicates and predicatives in the Portuguese language through a practical and engaging approach.

Detailed Project Description:

Groups of students (3 to 5 members per group) will have the task of creating a short theatrical piece (10-15 minutes) integrating the use of predicates and predicatives in a real context.

The theme of the play can vary according to the groups' interests. It can be a comedy, a drama, a love story, etc., as long as the use of predicates and predicatives is clearly present.

Required Materials:

• Notebook or word processor for script development.
• Camera for filming the theater (can be a smartphone camera).
• Internet access for research and uploading the finalized video on YouTube or sharing via email or online teaching platform.
• Stage props according to the needs of the play.

Detailed Activity Steps:

Step 1: Group Formation - groups should consist of 3 to 5 members, as directed by the teacher.

Step 2: Choosing the Theme for the Play - the theme is free, as long as it is appropriate and respects ethical and moral principles.

Step 3: Script Development - students should write a script for the play, clearly highlighting the use of predicates and predicatives. It is important that each dialogue, each scene is carefully written with attention to the correct use of the grammatical terms in focus.

Step 4: Rehearsal of the Play - students should rehearse their plays, taking note of any necessary corrections throughout the process.

Step 5: Filming the Play - once the rehearsal is completed, students should film the play.

Step 6: Video Editing (if necessary) - students can edit the video to correct errors, add effects, etc.

Step 7: Compilation of a Report - after the filming and editing are completed, students should compile a report describing the entire process of creating the play, emphasizing how the use of grammatical terms (predicate and predicative) was incorporated and used effectively.

Project Submission:

The final work will consist of two main components: the filmed theatrical piece and a written report.

1. Filmed Theatrical Piece: The filmed theatrical piece should be submitted via YouTube (private or unlisted) or sent directly to the teacher via email or online teaching platform.

2. Written Report: This document should be formatted as an academic report containing:

   Introduction: Here students should present the project's objective, the chosen theme for the play, and how the predicate and predicative were integrated.

   Development: In this section, the process of developing the theatrical piece should be detailed: from the theme selection to the final video editing. Students should explain how the concepts of predicate and predicative were applied and discuss any challenges encountered and how they were overcome.

   Conclusions: This is the place for students to reflect on what they learned throughout the project, what skills they developed, and what discoveries were made about the use of predicates and predicatives.

   Bibliography: Students should list all sources that were used to assist in the project.

This work is not only a means of assessing students' knowledge of the predicate and predicative but also an excellent way to promote teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and the development of other socio-emotional skills.
