Contextualization
The Portuguese language is composed of a series of essential elements for the formation of texts, whether they are stories, reports, newspaper articles, or even a casual conversation. Among these elements, the essential terms of the sentence are a fundamental part, as they are the ones that give meaning to how we communicate and express ourselves. Among these terms, the subject is one of the most important, as it directs us to whom or what the action is being performed.
The subject can be defined as the term of the sentence from which something is declared. It is the main term of the sentence, the nucleus. Learning about the subject, how to identify it, and its different types is essential for understanding Brazilian grammar and for the development of effective and clear communication.
In today's world, the ability to communicate effectively is more valued than ever. In all areas, whether at work, in personal relationships, or even in the academic world, understanding how grammatical structures work is crucial to convey your ideas clearly and concisely. Therefore, by understanding the role of the subject in the sentence, we can improve our communication and expression skills.
A practical example of the importance of the subject can be seen in various writing works. In selection processes, for example, a well-written essay, with correct grammar and a clear and logical structure, can be a differential for the candidate.
Here are some resources you can use to delve deeper into this topic:
-
Subject and Predicate: Understand How They Work - An article from Brasil Escola that explains in detail what the subject is and how it works in the context of the sentence.
-
Types of Subject - A page from the Toda Matéria website that describes and exemplifies each of the types of subject.
-
Atlas of the Portuguese Language (Saraiva, 2016): This book describes the structure and functioning of the Portuguese language in detail and is a great resource for those who wish to have a deeper understanding of the subject.
Practical Activity
Activity Title: Unraveling the Subject
Project Objective
To develop students' understanding of the concept of the subject in Portuguese grammar, knowing its different types and practical application in various texts. Additionally, it will promote the development of collaboration skills, time management, problem-solving, critical thinking, and academic writing.
Detailed Project Description
Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group must create an original tale that must contain at least 2000 words, and in which the correct use of different types of subjects must be evidenced. In addition, each group must produce a multimedia presentation (using tools such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Slides, etc.) explaining the concept of the subject, types of subject, and how they were applied in the tale created by them.
The practical activity will be divided into two main parts:
-
Research and Study: Groups must conduct a detailed research on the concept of the subject and its types, using the provided resources and any others they consider relevant. They must fully understand the topic before moving on to the next step.
-
Tale Creation and Presentation: Groups must create an original tale that demonstrates the use of different types of subjects. They must also prepare a presentation explaining their tale and how they applied the subject concepts they learned in their research.
This project should take more than twelve hours per student to complete.
