Introduction

The study of verbs is one of the fundamental components in the structure of the Portuguese language and, by extension, of human communication. Verbs are words that indicate actions, states, or phenomena of nature, and can express tense (past, present, future), mode (indicative, subjunctive, imperative), and verbal voices (active, passive, reflexive). In this project, we will address a portion of this rich content: the classification of verbs and their inflection in number and person.

In our language, we have three types of verbs: regular, irregular, and anomalous. Regular verbs follow a conjugation pattern; irregular verbs do not follow a defined pattern and must be memorized; and finally, anomalous verbs are the verbs "ser" and "ir," which present irregularities in almost all of their forms.

However, regardless of their classification, all verbs are subject to inflection, that is, they change form to agree with the number and person of the subject that accompanies them. This is a basic but critical aspect of Portuguese grammar and is essential for effective communication in our language.

The importance of verbs

In any linguistic interaction, be it an informal conversation or a scientific article, verbs play a crucial role. They are responsible for giving life to our sentences, for communicating our intentions, actions, and feelings. The correct use of verbs is fundamental for the clarity and effectiveness of our communication.

Moreover, understanding verbal inflection in number and person can contribute to literary appreciation and production. Many authors manipulate these elements to create aesthetic or narrative effects in their works. Thus, the analysis and comprehension of this topic allows us not only to improve our writing but also to enhance our ability to interpret and appreciate different types of texts.

Hands-on Activity

Activity Title: "Verbalizing with Creativity!"

Project Objective

• Develop understanding of verb classification and their inflection in number and person.
• Stimulate students' creativity and communication skills.
• Foster collaboration and teamwork.

Detailed Project Description

The activity will consist of creating a play, where each group must write a script focusing on the correct use of verbs in their various classifications and inflections. Upon completion of the script, students will perform their play for the class, where both the script and the team's performance will be evaluated.

Materials Needed

• Books or online reference materials on verbs.
• Paper and pen for writing the script.
• Presentation equipment (optional), such as costumes or props for the performance.

Step-by-step

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Set aside time for research and study of verbs - their classifications and inflections.
3. Encourage each group to discuss and decide on the plot of their play. The theme is free, as long as verbs are the main focus.
4. The groups should spend time writing the script, taking care to include verbs in their various classifications and inflections correctly.
5. With the script ready, students should prepare for the presentation, rehearsing and staging the performance in a way they deem most effective.
6. Hold the presentations in class, allowing all students to analyze and discuss the use of verbs.
7. After the presentation, each group must write a report, following the instructions below.

Deliverables

Each group must submit two items:

• The script of the play.
• A detailed report of the project.

The script will consolidate students' practical understanding of verbs and their inflections. It should contain a list of characters, their lines and actions with a focus on the appropriate use of verbs.

The report is a written document that reflects the learning acquired through the project. This document should include:

1. Introduction: Contextualization of the topic, briefly explaining the relevance of verbs and their inflections, as well as the objectives of the project.

2. Development: A detailed discussion on the theory of verbs, their classification and inflection in number and person. It should explain the process of creating the script, the difficulties encountered, strategies used to overcome them, and how the concepts studied were applied.

3. Conclusions: A reflection on the experience, identifying the main learnings, the usefulness of the activity, and how it contributed to the understanding of verbs and their inflections.

4. Bibliography: A list of the bibliographic references used in the development of the project.

The script and the report must be submitted within one week after the presentation of the play.
