Learning a new language is a process that goes beyond the mere translation of words from one language to another. It involves understanding contexts, phonetics, grammar, and, of course, vocabulary. When it comes to vocabulary, three areas stand out for their universality and practical application: animals, plants, and parts of the human body. Knowing how these things are called in other languages not only allows us to communicate more effectively but also expands our understanding of the world and ourselves.

Spanish, a language spoken by over 460 million people around the world and the second most spoken language in terms of number of native speakers, is a rich language. It is notable for its regionalisms and variations, and the vocabulary is no different. In our project, we will explore the vocabulary of animals, plants, and parts of the human body, learning not only the words but also exploring the differences that may arise depending on the geographical location.

Introduction

By learning the names of animals, plants, and parts of the human body in Spanish, we are doing more than simply expanding our vocabulary. We are creating connections between our native language and the foreign language, as well as building cognitive bridges that help us better understand our own thinking and learning processes.

Furthermore, knowledge of the vocabulary in these three areas is extremely useful in everyday situations, such as visits to the doctor, traveling abroad, or even watching movies and reading books. It is also an excellent tool for those who intend to work in areas such as biology, medicine, veterinary medicine, among others, where understanding these terms in another language can be crucial.

Finally, by working together to learn this vocabulary, we are developing essential skills such as collaboration, communication, and time management. The project will be an opportunity to test these skills in a controlled environment, where we can learn and grow together.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Let's Explore! - An Expedition through the Vocabulary of Animals, Plants, and Parts of the Human Body in Spanish.

Project Objective: The objective of this project, besides expanding students' vocabulary, is to develop their research, analysis, information organization, and collaboration skills. And, of course, all of this will be done through a fun practical activity.

Group Size and Project Duration: This activity is designed to be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and should be completed within a week, including research, material preparation, and report elaboration.

Detailed Project Description

Each group will be responsible for creating an interactive visual guide (it can be a poster, an illustrated book, a map, a presentation slide, among others) that exposes the vocabulary of animals, plants, and parts of the human body in Spanish.

Groups can divide the work by assigning different parts of the vocabulary to each member or working together on all aspects - the important thing is that everyone contributes equally to the construction of the guide.

Materials Needed:

• Spanish research sources (dictionaries, textbooks, educational websites)
• Materials for creating the visual guide (it all depends on the format chosen by the group, but it can include paper, colored pens, scissors, glue, computer, graphic editing program, etc.)

Step by Step:

1. Divide into groups of 3 to 5 people.
2. Brainstorm to define the format of the visual guide. Be creative! It can be an illustrated book, a map of an imaginary zoo with animal definitions, a giant human body with labeled parts, a poster of plants with their names in Spanish, etc.
3. Once the format is decided, divide the work among the group members by defining who will be responsible for which part of the vocabulary.
4. Start the research. Use the suggested resources and others you find. Take notes not only on the names of things in Spanish but also on details that help better understand the use of words.
5. Create the visual guide. Remember, it should be colorful, attractive, and informative.
6. Review the group's work, making sure all words are correct and that the guide is clear and easy to understand.
7. Prepare an oral presentation of the guide, explaining the design choices, work division, research process, and learning.
8. Finally, each group should prepare a written report following the structure: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.

Project Deliverables and Connection with Suggested Activities

Students must deliver the following items at the end of the project:

• The interactive visual guide.
• An oral presentation of the guide.
• A written report with the following topics:
  1. Introduction: Contextualize the project, indicating its relevance and real-world application, and the work's objective.
  2. Development: Explain the practice carried out, detailing the choice of format, the research and vocabulary compilation processes, and the methodology used to create the material.
  3. Conclusions: Summarize the main points of the project, the lessons learned, and the conclusions about the activity. Also, highlight the most challenging aspects of the project and how they were overcome.
  4. Bibliography: Indicate all research sources used for the project.

This activity connects with the project deliverables, as the visual guide, the oral presentation, and the written report are direct products of the collaborative work carried out by the group. Additionally, writing the report encourages reflection on one's own learning, which is essential for autonomous and critical formation.
