Contextualization
Dance is one of the oldest forms of human expression and a unique way to explore the interaction between body, mind, and emotions. Since prehistoric times, dance has been an important means of communication and ceremony in many cultures around the world.
In this project, we will delve into the universe of 'Dance Movement'. It is a concept that goes beyond the simple act of dancing, as it involves using the body as an instrument of communication and artistic expression, and understanding dance as a cultural and social practice that is influenced and shaped by historical, political, and social contexts.
Introduction
'Dance Movement' is an essential concept in dance that refers to how we use our bodies to express ideas, emotions, and narratives. Depending on the dance style, movements can be fast or slow, smooth or strong, fluid or rigid, large or small. By exploring dance movement, we are exploring the language of the body.
In this activity, we will also explore the relationship between dance and other disciplines, such as music and history. Dance and music are closely linked, with music often providing the rhythm and melody that guide the dancers' movements. Furthermore, dance can be seen as an expression of a people's culture and history. By learning about different dance styles, we can also learn about the traditions and stories of the cultures that produced them.
To delve deeper into the subject and contextualize it within a larger framework, we recommend the following sources:
-
Dance Theory: concepts, styles, aesthetics - This book covers the main theories and concepts related to dance, from its origin to contemporary styles.
-
History of Dance - This Wikipedia page offers an overview of the history of dance, from prehistory to the present day.
-
Dance: readings and perspectives - This collection of essays offers various perspectives on dance as an art form, cultural practice, and social phenomenon.
