This contextualization is necessary because dance is an extremely present form of art in our society, in various cultures around the world. It is used to express emotions, tell stories, and also as a form of physical exercise. Understanding the elements of dance helps to appreciate it more deeply, whether watching or practicing.

Furthermore, each location where dance is performed adds an extra element to the performance: the history of the place, the climate, the architecture, all of this influences how dance is perceived and appreciated. Studying these dance locations and how they interact with the elements of dance is a way to understand more deeply this ancient art that is so important to humanity.

Project Objective

The objective is to explore the elements of dance in a local context, creating a dance performance that tells a story related to the local history or culture. In addition, students should research and document the process of creating and rehearsing the dance in a detailed report.

Detailed Project Description

Student groups will create a dance that narrates a story or cultural aspect of the place where they live. They must consider all elements of dance - movement, space, time, and energy - and how they can be used to express and enhance the story they want to tell.

Students should also focus on the set, lighting, costumes, and soundtrack of the dance, connecting these elements to the locality and the story they chose. They are encouraged to use recycled and cost-effective materials to create costumes and sets.

Each group will present the dance to the class and write a report on the creation and rehearsal process of the dance. Students are encouraged to document the process, including discarded ideas, challenges, and solutions.

Required Materials

1. Adequate space to rehearse and perform a dance

Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group researches and chooses a local story or cultural aspect to be the theme of their dance.
3. The groups explore the elements of dance and consider how they can be used to express their story or cultural aspect.
4. Each group plans and develops the set, costumes, lighting, and soundtrack of their dance.
5. The groups rehearse their dances, making modifications as necessary.
6. Each group performs their dance for the class.
7. Students document the creation and rehearsal process of the dance in a report.

Project Deliverables and Writing of the Written Document

Students will provide two main deliverables:

1. The dance presentation, which will be evaluated based on the application of the elements of dance, the relationship with the chosen local story or cultural aspect, creativity, and collaboration among group members.

2. A written report on the project. This document should include:

   • Introduction: A summary of the chosen local story or cultural aspect, an explanation of its local importance and how it relates to the created dance.

   • Development: A detailed discussion on how the elements of dance were used, the creation of the set, costumes, lighting, and soundtrack, the challenges encountered and how they were overcome, and the rehearsal process. Students should demonstrate their understanding of the elements of dance and how they apply to the created dance.

   • Conclusion: An evaluation of the project, including what the group would have done differently, what they learned, and their conclusions about the experience.

   • Bibliography: A list of all sources used in the project, including books, online materials, videos, etc.

The written report is an important part of the evaluation and should demonstrate the students' deep understanding of the elements of dance and how they apply in the context of the chosen local story or cultural aspect. The writing should be clear, concise, and comprehensive, covering the entire scope of the project.
