The Renaissance was a cultural, economic and political movement that emerged in Italy in the 14th century, extending throughout Europe until the 17th century. Inspired by the values of Classical Antiquity, it was catalyzed by economic transformations and signaled the transition from medieval life to the beginning of the Modern Age.

This era of change was marked by an intense flow of ideas and innovations. It was a period of challenges to old practices and creation of new forms of thought and expression. The Renaissance celebrated human potential, the beauty and value of nature, and innovations in arts and sciences.

As we navigate the 21st century, it is increasingly important to understand the meanings of modernity and its logics of inclusion and exclusion, based on a European conception. We also need to identify the main characteristics of Humanisms and Renaissances and analyze their meanings.

Introduction

Determinants such as technological development, maritime and commercial expansion, as well as the formation of nation states led the world to a new era, the Modern Age. With the end of feudalism and the rise of the bourgeoisie, cities became centers of power and creativity, thus allowing the flourishing of the Renaissance.

In this project, we will explore the many facets of the Renaissance, examining the iconic works of art, revolutionary scientific discoveries, and philosophical ideas that shaped the era. We will elucidate how this explosion of creativity and critical thinking marked the beginning of modernity as we know it today.

The Renaissance was a transformative movement that shook traditional structures and laid the foundations for many of the practices and customs that are essential to our society today. Its legacy is seen in every aspect of our modern culture, from art and literature to science and technology.

Hands-on Activity

Title: The Renaissance Journey

Project Objectives:

1. To deeply explore the Renaissance in all its dimensions (history, art, philosophy, science).
2. To apply the concepts of modernity, humanism, and critical thinking in real contexts.
3. To develop socio-emotional skills such as cooperation, critical thinking, communication, and time management.

Detailed Project Description:

In this project, each group of 3 to 5 students will carry out a "Renaissance Journey". Each group will be responsible for researching and exploring a key Renaissance city (e.g., Florence, Rome, Venice, Paris, London) and its significant contributors (artists, scientists, philosophers).

As true Renaissance explorers, students will be asked to create a multimedia presentation, which can include a video, a digital poster, a play, a website, or another creative format, highlighting the following aspects:

1. The main artists, scientists, and philosophers of the city.
2. The most representative works of art and their characteristics.
3. The scientific discoveries and technological innovations.
4. The influence and impact of these individuals and their creations on society, both in their time and today.

In addition, each group must write a report that includes an introduction to the topic and the chosen city, the development of the work carried out, the conclusions drawn from the project, and the bibliography used.

Required Materials:

1. Internet access for research.
2. Materials for creating the multimedia project (video editing software, graphic design software, etc.)
3. Notebook and pen for notes and drafts.

Project Step-by-Step:

1. The class will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 students, and each group will choose a key Renaissance city for study.
2. Each group will conduct in-depth research on the chosen city and the significant contributors who lived there during the Renaissance.
3. After gathering their information, each group will begin working on their multimedia presentation, ensuring that it highlights the four aspects mentioned in the project description.
4. While working on the project, each group must also write a report, featuring an introduction, detailed development, conclusions, and bibliography.
5. At the end, each group will present their "Renaissance Journey" to the class and hand in their report.

Students should expect to dedicate at least 12 hours to the project, which includes time for research, creating the multimedia presentation, and writing the report.

Project Deliverables:

Students must deliver a multimedia presentation that represents their "Renaissance Journey". The format can vary according to the team's choice (video, slide presentation, digital poster, website, etc.) and should address all the requirements previously mentioned.

In addition to the presentation, each group must deliver a written report that complements the presentation, consisting of an introduction, development, conclusions, and the bibliography used. In the report, the introduction should provide an overview of the chosen city and the Renaissance, the development should detail the methodology used in the project, the conclusions should summarize the main learnings, and the bibliography should show all the sources of information used.

The report should be written in a clear and concise way, facilitating the understanding of the work done and the results obtained. The formatting and organization of the report will also be considered, so students should take care of the visual aspect of the text, ensuring that it is easy to read and understand.
