Introduction
The Greatest Common Factor (GCF) is a mathematical tool that helps us find the largest number that divides two or more numbers without leaving a remainder. For example, the GCF of 18 and 24 is 6. This means that 6 is the largest number that can divide both 18 and 24 without leaving a remainder.
The GCF has a wide range of applications and can be used in various logical reasoning and everyday problems. If you've ever found yourself in a situation where you needed to divide objects equally among a group of people, you've probably used the GCF concept without even realizing it!

Hands-on Activity: "Guess the GCF"
Objective
This project aims to provide students with a deep understanding of the concept of the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) through a group activity that incorporates challenging and fun problems.
Activity Description
"Guess the GCF" is an engaging game, similar to the popular game "Guess Who," where students must use logic and GCF skills to correctly identify secret numbers. In this way, in addition to practicing and improving their GCF skills, students will also work on other skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
Materials Required
- Paper and pens for each group.
- Cards with numbers written on them.
- Stopwatch.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
- Each group will receive a set of cards with numbers written on them.
- In each round, one member of the group will choose a card without revealing it to the other groups. This will be the "secret number."
- The goal of the game is for the other groups to guess the "secret number" by asking questions that can be answered with "yes" or "no". However, the questions must be structured in such a way that they involve GCF concepts. For example: "Is the GCF between the secret number and 20 greater than 10?"
- The group asking the question has 2 minutes to discuss and ask the question. The group with the "secret number" has 1 minute to discuss before answering.
- The game continues until one group guesses the "secret number." The group that guesses the number correctly wins the round.
- The game should last for a period of two weeks, with games being played at different times during that period.
Project Deliverables
Upon completion of the game, each group must prepare a detailed report.
Introduction
Students should begin the report with an introduction explaining the concept of GCF and the importance of its application in the real world. The report should also state the objective of the project.
