The Circle is one of the oldest and most well-known geometric figures in humanity. From observing celestial movements to the invention of the wheel, the circle has always been an intrinsic part of human history. In the realm of Mathematics, the circle is defined as a geometric place, that is, it is the set of points in the plane that are at the same distance from a fixed point called the center. This figure is fundamental for understanding Analytical Geometry, one of the foundations for the construction of other more complex subjects such as Physics and Engineering.

Furthermore, the circle has remarkable characteristics. The radius, for example, is the distance between any point on the circle and its center. The diameter, on the other hand, is a chord that passes through the center and is twice the radius. Moreover, the chord is any straight segment whose endpoints are points on the circle. These characteristics allow for a series of calculations and geometric constructions involving the circle.

Introduction

In this project, we will explore the circle and its associated concepts, such as radius, diameter, and chord. We will learn to construct a circle accurately using a compass and understand its definition as a geometric place. Additionally, we will approach the circle in a playful and creative way, always seeking to connect the mathematical concepts learned with the reality of the students.

The circle is present everywhere around us. If we are looking at a clock, we are facing a circle. If we are in front of a pizza, there is a circle. Mastering this concept is a powerful tool to understand and interact with the world around us, making learning mathematics a fundamental and enjoyable task.

Project Objective

The project aims to study and apply the concepts related to the circle, such as geometric place, radius, diameter, and chord, through playful, creative, and hands-on activities. During the project, students will learn to draw circles using a compass and apply the studied concepts in solving practical problems.

Detailed Project Description

The project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and will last about a month. Each group will have to:

  1. Study the theoretical concepts related to the circle, such as geometric place, radius, diameter, and chord.

  2. Practice drawing circles using a compass.

  3. Create a "Circle Panel," an artistic piece made from different circles drawn by the students.

  4. Solve mathematical problems using the studied circle concepts.

  5. Write a detailed report on the project, describing the learning process, the creation of the Circle Panel, the problem-solving process.

Required Materials

  2. Practice Drawing Circles: Students will learn to draw circles accurately using a compass. This activity will be carried out individually, but students can exchange experiences and tips with each other.

  3. Creation of the Circle Panel: Each group will create a Circle Panel, an artistic piece consisting of various circles of different sizes and colors. Students are free to be creative in the elaboration of the Panel, as long as all circles are drawn using a compass.

  4. Problem Solving: Each group will be responsible for solving a series of mathematical problems involving circles. These problems will be provided by the teacher and will have varying levels of difficulty.

  5. Report Writing: At the end of the project, students must write a detailed report describing the learning process, the creation of the Circle Panel, the problem-solving process, and the group's conclusions about the project. This report should follow the structure of Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.

Students should pay attention to time management for the completion of the proposed activities. It is estimated that each student will dedicate between five to ten hours to the project, including the completion of practical activities and report writing.
