Physical Exercise and the Body

Contextualization

Physical exercise has become more than a necessity, it is a way to maintain life in balance. Physical education and biology work together on this journey, helping to understand how our body responds to physical stimuli. Regular exercise directly influences our cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and endocrine systems. Additionally, it improves our mood, appetite, and sleep, and reduces the risk of various diseases, including heart disease and diabetes.

Physical exercises are an effective strategy for maintaining health and physical fitness. By combining theory and practice, we can understand how our body adapts to each type of exercise, whether aerobic or anaerobic, strength or endurance, and how each of these can be best utilized depending on our goal, be it weight loss, muscle gain, or simply maintaining good health.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Human Performance: How Physical Exercise Influences Our Body?"

Project Objective: To know, analyze, and understand the effects of physical exercise on our body, through a practical activity involving different types of exercise and the analysis of data obtained through them.

Detailed Project Description: This project will be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and will last approximately twelve hours. The project is divided into two parts: Physical experimentation and data analysis.

Materials Needed:

  • Timers
  • Measuring tape
  • Scale
  • Heart rate monitor (or apps that perform the same function)
  • Notebook for notes
  • Camera for documentation

Detailed Step-by-Step:

  1. Planning and Research: Before starting the practical activities, students should research the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and endocrine systems, and how they are affected by physical exercises. They should also plan the exercises to be performed, taking into account different strategies to improve health and physical fitness.

  2. Physical Experimentation: In this stage, students will plan and perform different types of physical exercises, including aerobic, anaerobic, strength, and endurance exercises. They should monitor and record data such as heart rate, execution time, number of repetitions, etc.

  3. Data Analysis: After collecting data, students should interpret and analyze the results. They should compare the performance and effects of each type of exercise on their body, relating them to the theoretical concepts studied.

  4. Final Report: Finally, students should produce a report describing the project execution, the conclusions drawn from the data, and the answers to their initial questions. This report will consist of an Introduction, explaining the importance of physical exercise for the human body, the Development, which includes the methodology used, the results obtained, and their analysis, and the Conclusion, where students should summarize the main points of the research and discuss what they learned from the project. The report should also contain a Bibliography section, where all resources used must be correctly cited.

Project Delivery:

After completing the practical activity, students will have developed skills and competencies that will be evaluated through oral and written presentations.

The oral presentation should include the presentation of the results obtained, accompanied by graphs, tables, and/or diagrams, as a way to illustrate the points discussed.

The teacher expects to receive a final report containing, but not limited to, four main topics: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used. This document should provide a detailed description of how the project was carried out, the theoretical concepts addressed, the methodology used, and the results obtained. Students should also discuss what they learned about the role of physical exercise in human health and how they can apply this knowledge in their lives.
