Technology has always been present throughout human history, evolving as our skills and knowledge of natural resources and their applications in daily life deepened. If in the beginning it was represented by simple tools, such as spearheads and stone axes, today it is synonymous with advanced computers, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and much more.

The history of technology is therefore essential for us to understand our own history. By studying how humanity has benefited from each technological advancement, we can comprehend the significance of past innovations and predict possible future trends. Furthermore, a critical analysis of this process allows us to perceive the challenges and opportunities created by technological inventions and discoveries.

The digital age began in the 20th century with the invention of the transistor, advancing to the development of microprocessors and the emergence of the internet. This drastically transformed our lives, creating an interdependence between technology and society. Understanding how this evolution occurred enables us to grasp the social, economic, and cultural transformations we experience.

This understanding is crucial for us to also develop a critical perspective on the role and impact of technology in our lives - in social relationships, the economy, politics, the environment, and education. Technology, on one hand, has brought beneficial innovations and incredible advances. On the other hand, it has presented challenges that we are still learning to address, such as data privacy, cybersecurity, digital exclusion, among others.

Activity Title: "Timeline: The Evolution of Technology and Its Impact on Society"

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is to challenge students to investigate the development of technology, from its origins to the present day, and analyze the impact of technology on society in various aspects (social, economic, cultural, and environmental). This project also aims to promote teamwork, time management, and critical thinking.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group must build an interactive timeline that includes the most important milestones in the evolution of technology, specifically focused on the digital age. Each event on the timeline should be accompanied by a detailed summary, an analysis of its impact on society, and references for further research.

Required Materials:

1. Computer with internet access: for researching and creating the timeline digitally.

2. Programs or digital platforms for timeline creation, for example, Prezi, Tiki-Toki, or Microsoft PowerPoint.

3. Camera (optional): To insert images or videos created by the group.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. The first step is research. Students should seek information about the major milestones in the history of technology, especially in the digital age. The chosen events should represent the most significant technological advances and tell the story of how technology has shaped society, the economy, culture, and the environment.

2. In the creation stage, students will work together to create an interactive timeline using a digital platform of their choice. Each technological milestone should be accompanied by a brief description, an analysis of the impacts it had on society, and references for further research.

3. Once the timeline is completed, students should prepare a presentation to share it with the class. The presentation should include a discussion of the most important events and themes that emerged during the research and project creation process.

4. The group should prepare a project report. The report should include:

   • Introduction: Describing the relevance of studying the history of technology and the project's objective.
   • Development: Explaining the methodology used for research and timeline creation. Here, students should detail the main technological milestones chosen, justifying their importance and impact on society.
   • Conclusions: Summary of the project's learnings and observations on the evolution of technology and its impacts on society.
   • Bibliography: References of the information sources used.

5. The finalized work will be an interactive timeline and a detailed report, both demonstrating the group's understanding of the history of technology and its influence on society.

This project should take more than twelve hours for each student and involves research, timeline creation, presentation preparation, and report writing. Each group will have two weeks to complete the project, which will promote time management skills.

The subjects involved in this project are Science and History, with an emphasis on the history of technology and its impact on human life over time. In addition, students will learn to work in teams, communicate their ideas effectively, and develop critical thinking skills on technological issues.
