A sentence is any statement with complete meaning that can be expressed through language. It is the minimum unit of communication and may or may not contain verbs, while a clause is a component of the sentence that must necessarily contain a verb or a verbal phrase, and usually has a subject that performs or undergoes the action expressed by the verb.

Understanding these differences is essential to communicate efficiently and correctly. Furthermore, the structuring of sentences and clauses is also very important for the development of writing skills, which are essential in academic, professional, and everyday environments.

Sentences and clauses are an integral and fundamental part of our daily lives. Whether we are reading a novel, writing an email to a colleague, or even using social media. Mastering these concepts is a skill that goes far beyond the classroom; it is a competence that enables us to express ourselves and understand others more precisely and effectively.

Practical Activity: "Building Stories with Phrases and Clauses"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to acquire a deeper understanding of sentences and clauses through the creation of an original and engaging story.

Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will collaboratively create a story in which they will use and exemplify the structure of sentences and clauses. The story should be constructed in 5 parts (Introduction, Development 1, Development 2, Climax, and Conclusion), and at each stage of development, students should apply specific concepts.

Required Materials

• Paper
• Colored pens
• Post-its
• Computer with internet access (for research)
• Grammar book (recommended, but not mandatory)

Step by Step

1. Brainstorming: Students should discuss and decide together on the general theme of their story.

2. Next, they should divide the story into 5 parts (Introduction, Development 1, Development 2, Climax, and Conclusion) and decide on the plot for each of these parts.

3. In the "Introduction," students should construct their sentences using subjects, predicates, and complements (direct and indirect objects). They should then identify and mark these elements in each sentence.

4. In "Development 1," students continue the story by creating compound sentences that will be connected by commas or conjunctions that express addition of meaning, such as the conjunction "and."

5. In "Development 2," students explore the use of different types of conjunctions to create relationships of opposition, conclusion, cause, etc., between the clauses.

6. During the "Climax," students should use clauses with verbal predicates and nominal predicates, identifying and differentiating them in their story.

7. For the "Conclusion," students should create a dialogue between characters that make use of the structures practiced up to that point.

In the end, students should have a complete story, rich in examples of the use of sentences and clauses.

Project Deliverables

The main deliverable of the project will be the story written by the students. Throughout the story, they should mark and identify the grammatical elements used.

Additionally, students should produce a report on the work done. This report should include:

1. Introduction: In this part, students should explain the project's theme, its relevance and real-life application, as well as the goal of this work.

2. Development: Here, students should explain the theoretical concepts that were addressed in the project, detail the process of creating the story, the methodology used to teach and learn the concepts, and present the main results obtained.

3. Conclusion: Students should summarize the main points of the project, explain what they learned from it, and discuss the conclusions drawn from the project.

4. Bibliography: Students should list all sources of information (books, websites, videos, etc.) consulted to carry out the project.
