Language is an extremely powerful tool that allows communication between individuals, expressing our thoughts, feelings, desires, and knowledge. However, not all communication situations require the same type of language. Therefore, it is essential to understand the concept of formal and informal language and its importance in different contexts.

Portuguese, like many languages, has variations that can be used according to the communicative situation. Formal language is generally used in more serious situations, such as in the corporate, academic environment, and in official documents. Informal language, or colloquial language, is used in more relaxed and casual contexts, such as in conversations with friends and family.

This linguistic flexibility is a fundamental concept in effective communication and in adequate understanding of the different contexts and situations in which we find ourselves. In the digital age, this skill becomes even more relevant, as social networks and online communication require the ability to switch between formality and informality.

Understanding and mastering these language variations allows us to interact more efficiently and appropriately in different social contexts, in addition to helping in the construction of our personal and professional image. The ability to adapt our language to the context is an essential tool for building and maintaining relationships, succeeding in the workplace, and, above all, contributing to a more comprehensive and pluralistic society.

Practical Activity: "Discovering and Exploring Formal and Informal Language"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for student groups to delve into the concept of formal and informal language and, through research and practical experiments, identify the differences between these two language styles, where and when they are applied. This project also aims to improve students' communication, collaboration, time management, and critical thinking skills.

Detailed Project Description

Students should divide into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for developing and presenting a 15 to 20-minute podcast, the theme of which will be "The Importance of Formal and Informal Language in Communication". This podcast should present discussions and varied examples, also exploring colloquial and standard language.

Required Materials

Students will need:

• Computer with internet access.
• Audio recording and editing tools.
• Research resources (books, articles, reliable websites).

Detailed Step-by-Step

1. Research and Planning (3 hours): Students should research the topic, gathering interesting information and examples to illustrate the differences between formal and informal language. They should also plan the podcast script, defining who will present each section and how the information will be organized.

2. Recording (2 hours): After dividing into tasks, students should record the podcast, paying attention to articulation, intonation, and voice clarity.

3. Editing (3 hours): After recording, the podcast should be edited, ensuring the best possible audio quality.

4. Review and Finalization (1-2 hours): Here, the group should review the final work, making final adjustments if necessary, and then submit it.

5. Report Writing (1-2 hours): After finalizing the podcast, each group should write and submit a detailed report on the project. The report should follow the suggested format: Introduction, Development, Conclusion, and Bibliography.

Project Deliverables

• 15-20 minute podcast.
• Project report.

The podcast will be a practical representation of the concepts studied, while the report will serve as a written and reflective analysis of the group's work. In the report, students should explain the process of creating the podcast, describing how they applied the theoretical concepts of formal and informal language, in addition to reflecting on the technical and socio-emotional skills developed during the project.

It is essential to remember that when writing the document, students should:
