Contextualization
Introduction
The Portuguese language is a powerful tool for expression, thought, and interaction. Among its elements, we highlight the structure of sentences, where the subject and the verb play crucial roles. The Subject is the subject's core, it is the being or thing about whom something is affirmed or denied. The Verb, on the other hand, is the word that, by itself, expresses a process (action, state, phenomenon), situated in time.
Understanding these elements and the relationships between them is essential for effective and clear communication. Furthermore, understanding these relationships is an essential learning objective in the Portuguese language curriculum for the 7th grade.
Given that texts are constructed through sentences, understanding how the subject and verb agree and function can help students write and read better, as well as develop skills in text analysis and interpretation.
Relevance and Real-World Application
Knowing how to identify the subject and verb in a sentence is not just an academic skill; it is a useful tool for everyday life. Understanding the meaning of a sentence, interpreting texts, writing correctly, and even learning other languages all require knowledge of sentence structure.
Furthermore, this project will involve teamwork, time management, and problem-solving - essential skills both in school and in the world of work. We encourage students to approach this project not only as an academic exercise but as an opportunity to develop skills that will be useful in all areas of their lives.
Atividade Prática
Activity Title: "Dramatists of Grammar: The Odyssey of the Subject and the Verb"
Activity Objective
The main objective of this activity is to understand and identify the role of the subject and the verb in the sentence structure through the creation of a play. This project will allow students to work collaboratively, enhance their communication and expression skills, and develop a practical and applied knowledge of grammatical concepts.
Detailed Project Description
Students will create a play in which the main characters are the Subject and the Verb. Other sentence members, such as the direct object, indirect object, and nominal complement, will also be characters. Students will need to represent the interaction of these elements in different types of sentences (affirmative, negative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative) and in different verb tenses.
This project aims to transform the abstract elements of grammar into concrete characters, thus facilitating the understanding of the complex relationships that exist in sentence structure.
Required Materials
- Portuguese grammar book or study material.
- Paper and pen for the script.
- Clothing and accessories representing each character (Subject, Verb, etc.).
- Camera or cell phone for recording the presentation (optional).
Step by Step
- Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.
- Each group will receive a list of sentence types and verb tenses that need to be represented in the play.
- Students should study the function and interaction of sentence elements, especially the subject and the verb, in the sentence types and verb tenses assigned to them.
- The group should write the script of the play, in which the characters (Sentence Elements) interact according to grammatical rules.
- After the teacher's approval, students will rehearse and present the play.
- An option is to record the presentation so that it can be watched and evaluated later.
- After the presentation, students should write a report about the experience.
Project Deliverables
The final project delivery includes:
-
Play Script: should include the play's title, list of characters, plot, and dialogue. It should demonstrate the students' understanding of the role of the subject and the verb in the sentence, as well as the relationship between them.
-
Play Presentation: can be performed live or through a video recording. It should demonstrate the students' ability to work as a team, communicate effectively, and use their creativity.
-
Report: written individually, should be in the format of a report, including Introduction (contextualization of the theme and project objectives), Development (description of the play creation process and discussion of results), Conclusion (lessons learned from the project and conclusions about the concepts studied), and Bibliography (references used).
In the report, students should explain how the different sentence elements were represented in the play and how they interacted with each other. Additionally, they should discuss the difficulties encountered during the project and how they were overcome. Students should also reflect on what they learned from the project, both in terms of grammatical content and socio-emotional skills.
