Introduction

The verb is one of the richest and most important grammatical classes in the Portuguese language. It is often the nucleus of the predicate, the central element of the sentence, and its function is to indicate action, state or natural phenomenon, situating them in time. Each verb has forms to express tense, mood and aspect, and it is about the tense, mood and aspect of the present that we will delve into in this project.

The verbal tenses, as the name suggests, situate the action of the verb in relation to time, which can be: past, present or future. This project will focus on the present tense, which is the tense that expresses a fact that occurs at the moment it is stated.

The mood indicates the speaker's attitude towards the action expressed by the verb. It can be indicative (represents the fact as certain), subjunctive (represents the fact as possible) or imperative (represents the fact as an order). In this work, we will focus on the indicative mood in the present tense.

Contextualization

The correct understanding and use of the tense, mood and aspect of the present in the verb is fundamental for effective communication in our language. It allows us to express actions and situations that occur at the time of speech, and communicates a certainty on the part of the speaker.

Furthermore, the ability to recognize the verb and its correct conjugation in texts is essential for text production and for the syntactic and semantic analysis of sentences. This skill will be very useful not only during your school career, in Portuguese language studies, but also in the future, in the job market, regardless of the area you choose to pursue.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Verb Journey

Activity Goal

The goal is for students to be able to correctly identify, understand and use the tense, mood and aspect of the present in verbs, in various texts and in their own textual productions.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will receive a list of verbs and must produce a "Verb Newspaper" that contains:

1. News Section: Each student should write a news story using at least 5 of the verbs on the list, always in the present tense and indicative mood. The news can be real or fictitious, but must be coherent and well-structured.

2. Interview Section: The group should prepare an interview for a fictional character or celebrity. The questions and answers should use the verbs on the list, always in the present tense and indicative mood.

3. Story Section: The group must create a short story, using the verbs on the list in the present tense and indicative mood. The story must have a beginning, middle and end.

4. Verb Section: A list of all the verbs used in the newspaper, indicating the tense (present) and mood (indicative) used.

Materials Required

• List of verbs provided by the teacher.
• A4 sheets of paper or digital platform for newspaper production.
• Pens, pencils, markers, etc. (if the newspaper is produced on paper).

Step by Step to Carry Out the Activity

1. After forming the groups, the teacher distributes the list of verbs to each group.
2. The students should organize themselves within the group, dividing the tasks for each section of the newspaper.
3. Each student should write their news individually, using at least 5 verbs from the list.
4. The group works together to create the interview and the story, always paying attention to the correct use of the verbs.
5. Finally, the students prepare the verb section, listing all the verbs used throughout the newspaper and indicating the tense and mood used.
6. The groups hand in the newspaper to the teacher, along with a report on the activity carried out.

Connection between Activities and Project Deliverables

After the conclusion of the practical part, the students will have to prepare a group report, which must contain:

1. Introduction: Description of the theme, its relevance and application in the real world, as well as the objective of this project.
2. Development: Explanation of the theory behind the use of the present tense and indicative mood in verbs, detailing the activity carried out, describing the methodology used and presenting and discussing the results obtained.
3. Conclusion: Recapitulation of the main points, indication of the lessons learned and conclusions drawn about the project.
4. Bibliography: Indication of the sources used to prepare the project.

The newspaper and the report function as the final deliverables of the project, where the newspaper represents the practical application of the knowledge acquired and the report represents the reflexive and analytical record of the students' learning process.
