For us humans, language is an essential tool for communication and the formation of thoughts. In the Portuguese language, complete sentences are usually composed of two main parts: the subject and the predicate. The subject is the person, thing, or concept that the sentence refers to. The predicate, in turn, is the part of the sentence that says something about this subject, that is, that describes an action, a state, or a quality inherent to the subject.

Moreover, every sentence contains two mandatory elements: Subject and Predicate. The subject is the core of the subject and usually comes before the predicate. The Predicate, on the other hand, is everything in the sentence that refers to the subject. It is important to emphasize that Predicate is the term that contains the verb or the word that has a verb value (words that indicate action, state, or natural phenomenon).

Understanding these concepts is crucial for reading, interpreting, and writing texts, as they make up the basic structure of any sentence. A good understanding of the subject and the predicate allows expressing ideas clearly and precisely, avoiding misunderstandings and ambiguities.

Importance and Real-World Applications of the Theme

The study of the subject and the predicate is extremely important because through it we learn to structure our ideas and thoughts in a coherent and logical way. After all, a sentence whose subject and predicate are confused or swapped can lead to erroneous interpretations.

Furthermore, this knowledge is fundamental in various situations in our daily lives, whether at school when writing an essay or a report, or at work when drafting an email or a proposal. Mastering the basic textual structure allows us to express ourselves clearly, efficiently, and assertively, contributing to a better understanding and interpretation of various texts.

Activity Title: "Treasure Hunt of Sentence Elements"

Project Objective

This project aims to enhance students' understanding of Subject and Predicate, while promoting collaboration, creative thinking, and time management. The ultimate goal is for students to be able to identify and correctly use the subject and predicate in sentences, both in read texts and in their own production.

Detailed Project Description

In this activity, students will act as grammar detectives in a treasure hunt. They must find hidden sentences in texts, identifying the subject and predicate of each one. Additionally, students must create their own sentences, ensuring that each sentence is constructed correctly, according to the concepts learned.

Required Materials

• Various texts (articles, stories, news, etc.)
• Pencil and paper
• Computer with internet access for research and report writing

Step-by-Step Guide for Activity Execution

1. Each group receives a different selection of texts for analysis. The texts should be long enough to make the activity challenging, but not so long that it becomes tedious or excessively time-consuming (approximately two to three pages of text).

2. Students should first read each text to understand its general content.

3. Next, they should identify and highlight all the sentences they find in the text.

4. For each identified sentence, students should separate the subject and the predicate, writing them separately on a piece of paper. For each sentence, they should write a brief explanation of how they identified the subject and the predicate.

5. After completing the analysis of the texts, students should create their own sentences, ensuring they use the subject and predicate correctly.

6. Finally, students should write a report detailing the process followed, the difficulties encountered, the strategies used to overcome these difficulties, the results achieved, and the conclusions drawn. The report should be divided into the following topics: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.

Project Deliverables

Students must deliver:

1. The list of identified sentences, each with its subject and predicate separated and a brief explanation of how they were identified;

2. The sentences created by the students, each with its subject and predicate highlighted and a brief explanation of how they were constructed;

3. The final report, properly structured as indicated.

Deliverables 1 and 2 should demonstrate the achievement of technical knowledge, while deliverable 3 should point out the socio-emotional learnings acquired during the activity. Additionally, the report should clearly demonstrate the students' understanding of the theme and the project itself, as well as their ability to apply the acquired knowledge to create their own sentences.
