Music has been an essential part of human culture and society throughout the ages. Not only does it serve to express feelings, but it also plays a fundamental role in building communities, in rituals and in expressing cultural identities. This project gives students the opportunity to explore a unique set of skills related to music: improvisation, composition and musical creation.
To understand what improvisation, composition and musical creation are, we first need to understand what music is. Music is an art form that combines sound and silence to express ideas and emotions. Sound can be produced from a variety of sources, such as the human voice, musical instruments, and even natural and artificial sounds. Improvisation is the ability to create and perform music on the spot, with no prior script or planning. Music composition is a process of creating a new piece of music. Musical creation is a broad term that encompasses both improvisation and composition, as well as other ways of producing music.
Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, music has been used for a variety of purposes beyond entertainment. It has been used as a form of protest and political expression, as a form of therapy and mental well-being, as a way to educate and teach, among many other uses. In this project, you will have the opportunity to explore ways in which music can be made beyond formal production, using voices, body sounds and/or acoustic or electronic instruments, conventional or unconventional, expressing musical ideas individually, collectively and collaboratively.

Practical Activity
Activity Title: Collaborative Music Production
Project Goal:
The main goal of this project is to allow students to apply their knowledge of improvisation, composition and collaborative music creation to produce a musical piece that goes beyond formal music production. Students are expected to be able to explore various forms of musical expression and learn how to collaborate effectively with peers.
Detailed project description:
Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will be responsible for creating an original piece of music, following the principles of improvisation, composition and musical creation. Different body sounds, voices and any acoustic or electronic instruments, whether conventional or unconventional, are allowed.
The piece should be between 3 and 5 minutes long, and the composition should be done collaboratively by all members of the group. If possible, one member of the group should assume the role of "conductor" to coordinate the improvisation and composition.
Of course, the members of the group can assume different roles in the creation process depending on their individual skills and interests.
Materials required:
- Musical Instruments, if available (or body sounds such as clapping, chest pounding, etc.).
- Audio recording app or software.
- Computer with internet access (for research and project submission).
Detailed step-by-step guide to carrying out the activity:
- Form groups of 3 to 5 students and discuss the main concepts of the project, such as improvisation, composition and musical creation.
- Research about musical concepts, styles and structures that will influence your composition.
- Do some musical improvisation exercises to loosen up and start creating together.
- Compose the musical piece: this may involve improvising, creating melodies and harmonies, experimenting with different sounds and rhythms, etc.
- Record the musical piece using recording software or an app.
- Meet to listen to, discuss and eventually revise the recording.

In this part, the creation process should be detailed, explaining how the division of tasks was done, how the collaboration worked and how the decisions were made. It is also necessary to talk about the methodology used in the creation and recording of the music.
Conclusions
Here, students should review the main points of the project, talk about the lessons learned, the challenges faced, the solutions found and the conclusions drawn about the entire project.
Bibliography
At the end of the report, students should indicate all the sources they used for research or inspiration, including books, websites, videos, etc.
Remember that the project, with all its steps, should be completed within one month, with a workload of five to ten hours per participating student.
