Music is a form of art present in all cultures and societies, having a great emotional and cultural impact on our lives. It is composed of various elements that, when combined, create melodies that can touch us emotionally, make us dance, and even help us better understand the world around us. In this project, we will explore the elements of musical construction, including pitch, intensity, timbre, melody, and rhythm.

Like any form of communication, music has its own language. Understanding this language allows us to appreciate music at a deeper level and provides us with the tools to express our own musical ideas. Knowledge in music can open doors to careers not only in performance and composition, but also in areas such as sound engineering, music production, teaching, and many others.

Introduction

Let's start with 'pitch', which refers to the perception of how 'high' or 'low' a sound is and is determined by the sound's frequency. Next, we have 'intensity', which is the strength or softness with which a note is played. 'Timbre' describes the unique quality of a sound that allows us to distinguish between different instruments or voices. 'Melody' is a series of notes played in succession that create a cohesive musical entity. And finally, 'rhythm' is the sequence or pattern of sound durations (notes, pauses).

Each of these elements plays a fundamental role in musical construction and it is on them that we will learn and explore. We will use various practical activities and technological resources to understand each of these elements.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Composing Our Song

Project Objective:

This project aims to provide students with the opportunity to explore and understand the elements of musical construction, using technological resources and becoming familiar with musical language, as well as fostering collaboration and teamwork.

Detailed Project Description:

Students, organized in groups of 3 to 5, will research the elements of musical construction and create an original song that exemplifies these elements. They will use a digital music editing software (DAW) to compose and record their song. Each group should then present their song to the class and explain how each musical construction element was used in the composition.

Required Materials:

• Internet access for research
• Computer with digital music editing software (GarageBand, Audacity, etc.)
• Musical instruments (if available)

Step-by-Step Guide to the Activity:

1. Gather the group and discuss the key concepts of musical construction elements: pitch, intensity, timbre, melody, and rhythm. Explore the suggested sources and others you find in your research.

2. Choose a theme for your song. It can be something the group is interested in or wants to explore.

3. Start composing the melody and rhythm of your song using the music editing software. Remember to vary the pitch and intensity of the notes to create an interesting melody.

4. Add additional instruments or sounds to the music editing software to create different timbres. Experiment with different combinations of sounds to see what works best for your song.

5. Review and adjust your song as needed. Make sure all musical construction elements are present and that the song sounds good.

6. Once the song is finished, the group should prepare a presentation of their song for the class. This presentation should include an explanation of how each musical construction element was used in the song.

7. Present your song and explanation to the class.

8. Finally, the group should write a report detailing the song composition process. The report should have the following sections: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.

      - Introduction: Presentation of the project, contextualizing the music elements and the relevance of the activity.
      - Development: Explanation of the song creation process, description of the musical construction elements used, the methodology applied, and the results obtained.
      - Conclusions: Recap of the points presented throughout the report and the skills acquired during the project.
      - Bibliography: List of sources used during research and project construction.
   

Each group must submit the written report and the song file at the end of the project.

The connection between the project stages and the delivery is as follows: the initial research will be the basis for the song production and argumentation in the report. The song will demonstrate in practice the application of the concepts, and the report will show in a theoretical and reflective way the path taken by the group to the final result.
