Latin America is an extremely rich and diverse region, with countries that have their own unique characteristics. But beyond their borders, these countries have an important point in common: the need for regional cooperation and the formation of blocs to strengthen their economies and influence on the world stage. This unity has its origins in cultural, linguistic, and historical affinities.

Latin American blocs are supranational entities formed by countries in Central, South America, and the Caribbean that seek to strengthen their economic, political, social, and cultural ties. These blocs involve trade agreements, tariffs, peace treaties, among others, and play a fundamental role in the world economy.

In this scenario, Mercosur (Southern Common Market), OAS (Organization of American States), NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), and UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) are examples of blocs that seek to increase the competitiveness of member countries in the international market, promoting trade liberalization and political cooperation.

Considering the relevance of the theme and its direct application in the contemporary world, this project focuses on deepening the study of Latin American economic blocs, their origins, objectives, challenges, and results.

Understanding these blocs and their interrelationships is fundamental to understanding the economic and political dynamics of the region. Thus, the study of Latin American blocs is essential to understanding trade relations, diplomacy, power relations, and the influence of Latin American countries on the world stage.

Practical Activity: "Latin American Blocs: Building Bridges"

Project Objective

The project proposes the creation of an educational "board game" that will bring the dynamics of economic blocs in a fun and collaborative way. The goal is for each group to represent a specific Latin American bloc, having to fully understand its characteristics in order to 'play' in the world economy.

Project Description

The project will be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and has an estimated duration of at least 12 hours throughout its development and execution stages. In an interdisciplinary approach, in addition to Geography, the discipline of Arts is fundamental for the making of the game.

The students will have the following tasks:

1. Research and study the economic bloc they will represent (origin, objectives, challenges, results achieved, and main trading partners).
2. Create rules for the game that reflect the main challenges and characteristics of the bloc that their group represents.
3. Make the board game, which can be made with cardboard, paperboard, or other available materials, and representative pieces.

The games will be presented in class, where demonstration matches will be held. Each group will have to explain the rules of their game and how the characteristics of their bloc are reflected in it.

Materials Needed:

• Research material (books, internet access, documentaries, etc.);
• Material for making the game (cardboard or cardboard, pens, colored pencils, ruler, scissors, glue, etc.)
• Pieces to play (can be made of cardboard, or use small pieces like buttons).

Step by Step:

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Assign each group a Latin American economic bloc to study.
3. Each group should research their bloc in depth, understanding its challenges, objectives, achievements, and main trading partners.
4. Students should create game rules that reflect the main challenges and characteristics of the bloc represented.
5. The group should make the board game, using creativity and available resources.
6. Demonstration rounds in the classroom, where each group presents their game, explains the rules, and plays a round.

Delivery and Evaluation:

At the end, each group must deliver the board game made and also a written report following the structure: Introduction (contextualizing the chosen economic bloc and the objective of the work), Development (detailing the research carried out, the creation of the game rules and the making of the board), Conclusions (highlighting the learnings acquired, the difficulties encountered, the solutions proposed and the results obtained) and Bibliography (list of references used).

The written document should demonstrate the depth of research conducted, the relationship between the characteristics of the bloc and the rules of the game, and the group's critical reflection on the work process and the results achieved.

This project, once completed, will provide students with an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of Latin American economic blocs, stimulating critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
