Introduction

We are all part of a broad, diverse, and ever-changing world. This diversity and these transformations are a mega-relevant theme for our Geography discipline, as they concern how people, cultures, territories, and social relations establish and change on the planet. Whether through the movement of people, the so-called migrations, or through changes in lifestyles and work patterns, or even through environmental transformations.

Worldwide diversity is represented by different cultures, languages, religions, customs, geographical landscapes, among other aspects. The transformations are changes that occur in different aspects of society over time. They can be political, economic, cultural, demographic, or environmental changes. Both are central issues for understanding our society and our environment.

Therefore, understanding global diversity and transformations is essential for us to comprehend and critically discuss current social issues, such as social inclusion, human rights, environmental sustainability, and globalization.

Contextualization

We can see the diversity and transformations of the world in our own municipality: in families that came from different places, at different times and for different reasons; in the cultural exchanges that occur in daily life; in the constant urban and rural transformations; in a series of examples.

This municipality, therefore, is transformed and transformed by these global diversities and transformations. As a result, this municipality is part of the world, and the world is part of this municipality. Understanding all of this is understanding a little more about ourselves, our history, and the possibilities for our future.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Our Municipality on the World Stage"

Project Objective

The student groups should investigate the influences of various cultures and global transformations in the municipality where they live. They should also identify how the municipality has changed over the years and how it influenced and was influenced by these global changes.

The students, in groups of 3 to 5 people, should:

1. Identify families of different origins in the municipality and conduct research to understand the context and reasons for these migrations.
2. Study the changes that have occurred in the municipality over the years in different aspects (cultural, demographic, urban, rural, etc.).
3. Relate these changes to migratory flows and global transformations.
4. Discuss how this diversity and these transformations impact local and global life.

To make the activity more interactive and playful, groups may choose to present their results in different ways: through a poster, a video, a slide presentation, or a dramatization.

Required Materials

For the completion of this project, groups will need:

1. Internet access for research.
2. Materials for presenting the results (paper, pen, computer for slides or video, etc).
3. Time for collecting testimonials and information (in case of interviews).

1. Formation of groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Discussion within the groups to choose the form of presentation of the results.
3. Research to identify families of different origins in the municipality and understand the context of these migrations.
4. Research on the transformations that have occurred in the municipality over the years.
5. Relationship of these changes with migratory flows and global transformations.
6. Preparation of the presentation.

Project Delivery

At the end of the project, students should present the results of their research in a creative and detailed manner. They should also prepare a written report, which should include:

1. Introduction: In this part, they should highlight that the project seeks to investigate the diversity and transformations in their municipality, parallel to global issues. The real relevance of the theme and the project's objective should also be elucidated.
2. Development: Here, they should describe the theory behind global migrations and cultural, demographic, urban, rural transformations, etc. They should also describe in detail the research process, discussion, and presentation preparation, indicating the methodology used and finally presenting and discussing the results obtained.
3. Conclusion: They should summarize their main points, explain the learnings obtained, and draw conclusions about the project.
4. Bibliography: They should indicate all bibliographic sources used during the research, such as books, websites, videos, among others.

This report should be delivered along with the presentation and will be a crucial part of the project evaluation.
