Africa is a continent of great diversity and contrasts, both in natural and social and economic aspects. Understanding its socioeconomic characteristics is essential to understanding the complexity of the contemporary world, which goes beyond the borders of developed countries.

Africa is made up of 54 countries, each with its own peculiarities in terms of history, culture, governance, and economic development. Even so, it is possible to identify some common characteristics among many of them, such as the economic dependence on natural resources and the social and political consequences of colonialism.

African societies are marked by ethnic and cultural diversity, with hundreds of different ethnic groups and languages. Despite the innumerable natural resources, the African continent faces great socioeconomic challenges, such as poverty, hunger, endemic diseases, and armed conflicts. The exploration of natural resources has been one of the main sources of income for many African countries, but the unequal distribution of these resources has led to serious social tensions and political conflicts.

Activity Title: "Building Africa: A Socioeconomic Journey"

Project Objective: Analyze and understand the African continent, taking into account the diverse socioeconomic characteristics of five countries chosen by the group. The objective is not only to learn about the economic and social aspects, but also to understand the challenges and opportunities present in African countries.

Detailed Project Description:

Within each group, each student will be responsible to be the "expert" in one of the five countries selected. They should research deeply about the chosen country's socioeconomic characteristics, including demographics, economy, politics, culture and history. The information should be presented in a fun and engaging way, such as a slide presentation, video, model, or even a game created by the group itself.

Students should also investigate and discuss the causes and consequences of the socioeconomic problems faced by these countries, as well as potential solutions. The information gathered by each "expert" will be used to create a large socioeconomic "map" of Africa, which should be presented to the class at the end of the project.

Required Materials:

• Internet access for research
• Office supplies for creating the Africa "map" (paper, pens, colored pencils, etc.)
• Programs for creating slide presentations, videos, infographics or whatever is necessary to present the results.

Detailed Step-by-Step for the Activity:

1. Each group must choose five countries in Africa to study.
2. Assign a "specialist" for each of the countries.
3. Each "expert" should begin researching the socioeconomic characteristics of their country, including:
   • Population: size, growth rate, age distribution, etc.
   • Economy: main export products, GDP, unemployment rate, poverty level, etc.
   • Policy: system of government, recent conflicts, etc.
   • Culture: main languages spoken, religions, customs, etc.
   • History: colonization, independence, wars, etc.
4. Meet regularly to discuss the research results and plan the elaboration of the Africa "map".
5. Create the results presentation in a fun and engaging way, respecting the chosen format by the group.
6. Present the "map" to the class, explaining the socioeconomic characteristics of the countries studied and possible paths for the future.

Project Deliverables:

1. Written report: This document should include an introduction, a detailed development, conclusions and the bibliography used to carry out the project. This report should explain which countries were chosen, why they were chosen, the socioeconomic characteristics of each country and the conclusions reached by the group.

2. Presentation of the Africa "map": This deliverable should be presented to the class, showing in a visual and fun way the information obtained during the research. This presentation should also include a detailed explanation of the socioeconomic characteristics of the countries studied, as well as the conclusions reached by the group.
