Contextualization

Nature is a vast field of exploration that offers various ways of interaction and learning. Harmonious integration with the environment is essential for the maintenance of life on Earth. In this sense, Physical Education, in a transdisciplinary way, can contribute to citizenship education by allowing reflection on the relationships between human beings and nature.

Adventure Body Practices in Nature, in turn, provide experiences of living in natural environments, enabling the overcoming of challenges, development of autonomy, among other skills. Such body practices include activities such as trails, hikes, rappelling, climbing, canoeing, among others, which combine physical activity with the exploration of the natural environment, valuing respect for the environment and solidarity.

The project 'Adventures in Nature' aims to provide 8th-grade students with experiences of living in natural environments, promoting physical education classes beyond the school walls. In this project, students will learn about the importance of respecting nature, valuing, and conserving the environment.

Importance

The practice of physical activities in natural environments favors the development of numerous skills, with these spaces being the best laboratories for experience and learning. Physical activity inserted in the natural environment raises the level of demand for practitioners, as it requires greater attention, emotional control, teamwork, among other skills that are also demanded in other spheres of life.

In addition, adventure activities in nature have a playful component, making learning more attractive and meaningful for students. Being a stage of adventures, nature invites challenge and overcoming limits, favoring the personal and interpersonal development of students.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: The Great Trail - Exploring and Learning about Nature in Practice

Project Objective:

Develop technical skills related to adventure body practices in nature, as well as socio-emotional skills, such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.

Project Description:

This project will involve the realization of a trail in a local park or natural reserve (always under adult supervision). For this, the Physical Education teacher should look for a suitable location that offers safety and the possibility of carrying out the proposed activity. Students, in groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to plan and conduct a trail, interacting harmoniously with nature, while learning and applying knowledge about adventure body practices in nature.

Necessary Materials:

  1. Trail or natural park maps;
  2. First aid kit;
  3. Water and easily consumable food (fruits, cereal bars, etc.);
  4. Backpack to carry personal items;
  5. Comfortable and suitable clothes and shoes for the trail.

Step by Step:

  1. Group Formation: Each group should have between 3 to 5 students. The teacher should guide the students to form heterogeneous groups, so that there is a balance of skills within each group.

  2. Research and Planning: Each group should research the trail to be carried out, identifying points of interest, level of difficulty, what they will need, etc. They will also be responsible for selecting what will be taken on this trail, based on the research conducted.

  3. Trail Execution: The groups should carry out the trail on the scheduled day, always under the supervision of the teacher and/or other responsible adults. During the trail, students can also identify risks and formulate strategies to overcome them.

  4. Final Report: After completing the trail, each group should prepare a report (maximum of 5 pages) describing the experience. The report should include the following topics:

    • Introduction: Here students should present the scenario and the objective of the project, as well as its relevance.

    • Development: In this section, students should describe the theory related to adventure body practices in nature, explain the activity carried out in detail, present the methodology used (how they prepared, which strategies they adopted), and discuss the results and learnings obtained.

    • Conclusion: Students should highlight the main results, learnings, and conclusions about the project.

    • Bibliography: Finally, they should indicate all the resources used to prepare the project.

Project Deliverables:

The project 'The Great Trail - Exploring and Learning about Nature in Practice' will have two main deliverables:

  1. The execution of the practical activity, which will be the trail, to be carried out in a group. The teacher must ensure that students have a safe and positive experience while learning and applying knowledge about adventure body practices in nature.

  2. The final report, which will provide a comprehensive view of the entire project. Writing this document will allow students to reflect more deeply on their experience, consolidate their learning, and practice written communication skills. The report must be submitted one week after the trail is completed.
