Transformations in Sports

Contextualization

Sports are an integral part of our lives and our culture. They serve as a way to bring us together, to challenge ourselves, and to have fun. But, like everything in our society, sports have also undergone transformations over time. These changes can be seen at all levels, from the rules and regulations that govern the games to how sports are consumed and enjoyed by the public.

Importance of the topic

Understanding the transformations in sports allows us to better understand our own history and culture. Sport is a mirror of society, and therefore changes in sports reflect changes in society. Furthermore, by examining the transformations in sports, we can also learn valuable lessons about adaptation, innovation, and evolution.

Practical Activity: 'The Journey of Sports'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to research and analyze the transformations that have occurred in a specific sport of their choice over time, and to prepare a presentation based on their findings.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each team will choose a specific sport to research and analyze the changes and evolutions that have occurred in that sport over time. The teams will research the transformations in the sport's rules, the equipment used, the athletes' physical preparation, and how the sport is viewed and consumed by the public.

Required Materials

  • Computers with internet access for research.
  • Writing materials for notes.
  • Presentation software (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.).
  • Time for research and presentation preparation (5 to 10 hours per student).

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Completion

  1. Formation of groups and choice of sport to be researched.
  2. Research on the history of the sport, focusing on its transformations (rules, equipment, athletes' physical preparation, perception, and consumption).
  3. Note-taking and organization of the information collected in the research.
  4. Preparation of the presentation, dividing the information among the group members.
  5. Final presentation of the project to the class.

Project Delivery

At the end of the project, each group must deliver:

  1. A digital presentation containing the information collected and the analysis made on the transformations in the chosen sport.
  2. A written report accompanying the presentation.

The report should include the following topics:

  • Introduction: Contextualization of the sport, the relevance of the chosen sport, and the relevance of the transformations that occurred.
  • Development: Detailed description of the central theme(s) of the transformations that occurred and the activity carried out. It should include the methodology used for research and analysis, the data collection process, and the discussion of the results.
  • Conclusions: Should summarize the main points of the research and analysis, the lessons learned, and the conclusions drawn about the observed transformations in the sport.
  • Bibliography: Indication of the information sources used to work on the project.

With this project, it is expected that students acquire analytical skills, learn about the evolution of sports and the importance of teamwork, as well as develop socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.
