In the real world, understanding electric power is important for various aspects, but one of them is particularly relevant: energy consumption. Knowing the amount of energy an appliance consumes allows us to calculate the cost of using that appliance and optimize our energy use. Furthermore, efficient use of electrical energy contributes to the sustainability of the planet by reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
High energy consumption is one of the greatest challenges faced by modern society. In turn, efficient use of electricity is one of the solutions to this problem. With knowledge of important concepts such as electric power, we can play an active role in this challenge by making informed decisions about how to consume energy in our daily lives.

Practical Activity
Activity Title: Energy at the Tip of the Pencil
Project Objective
The objective of this activity is to provide students with a practical understanding of the concept of electric power and how it relates to energy consumption. Students should measure the energy consumption of different household appliances and propose a plan to optimize the use of electrical energy at their school or in the community.
Detailed Project Description
To carry out this project, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will be responsible for:
- Selecting at least five different electrical appliances.
- Noting the electric power of each appliance (usually, this information can be found on a label on the appliance itself).
- Calculating the energy consumption of these appliances per day, week, and month (assuming an average daily use of 2 hours for each appliance).
- Based on these calculations, creating a plan to optimize the use of electrical energy at school or in the community.
The project should be completed in approximately 15 hours of work per student, including research time, conducting experiments, analyzing results, and preparing the final report.
