Contextualization

The advertising text is one of the most common types of texts in our daily lives. Whether in magazines, newspapers, television, the internet, or even on billboards on the streets, advertising is always around us. The art of persuading and attracting the public to a product, service, or idea is a valuable skill in many fields of work and study.

Advertising uses various strategies to attract and persuade its target audience. They use a mix of text, image, and sound to create messages that capture our attention. Furthermore, they also explore emotions and appeal to logic to convince the public to take action - whether it's buying a product, hiring a service, supporting a cause, or changing a behavior. Advertising text is, therefore, a fascinating example of how language can be used powerfully and creatively.

In a world dominated by messages and information, knowing how advertising works is a necessary skill. Understanding how advertising texts are structured and what techniques are used can help us be more informed and critical consumers. Moreover, this understanding can serve as a basis for creating our own campaigns and persuasive messages.

Importance of Advertising Text

No product or service survives without advertising. They need to be promoted to the public, and that's what advertising does. However, advertising is more than just informing the public about a product or service. It's about connecting with people, understanding what they want and need, and presenting a product or service as the solution to those needs.

Advertisers use a variety of strategies to do this. They can use stories or metaphors to make a product more appealing. They can use statistics or data to demonstrate the effectiveness of a product. They can also use emotional appeals to connect with the audience on a deeper level.

But it's not only in the business world that advertising plays an important role. Non-profit organizations, governments, and even individuals also use advertising to convey their messages and causes. For example, awareness campaigns on health, safety, and human rights often use advertising techniques to raise awareness and persuade the public.

Activity Title: "Advertising Campaign: From Concept to Practice"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to develop a complete advertising campaign, including market research, defining the target audience, creating a concept, writing advertising text, and designing advertising pieces for different media.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will have to create an advertising campaign for a fictional product or service. The campaign should include market research, defining the target audience, creating a concept, writing an advertising text, and designing advertising pieces for different media (newspapers, magazines, billboards, and digital media).

Required Materials

  1. Computer with internet access;
  2. Graphic design software (Example: Canva, which has a free version);
  3. Paper and pen for brainstorming and drafts.

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Definition of Product/Service: Each group will decide on a fictional product or service for which they will create an advertising campaign.

  2. Market Research: Students will research the market and competition for their product. What is the consumer profile for this product? What are the current market trends? Who are the main competitors and what are they doing to attract consumers?

  3. Definition of Target Audience: Based on market research, students will define who the target audience is for the product.

  4. Creation of Concept: Students will create a concept for the campaign that is appealing to the target audience and differentiates the product from competitors.

  5. Writing Advertising Text: Using advertising writing techniques, students will write an advertising text that argues the advantages and benefits of their product.

  6. Design of Advertising Pieces: Students will create advertising pieces for different media (newspapers, magazines, billboards, and digital media) that reflect the campaign concept and include the created advertising text.

The project should take about 5 to 10 hours to complete per student. Groups will have one month to complete the project.

Project Deliverables

Students must submit a written report of their project containing the following topics:

  1. Introduction: Should contextualize the theme, its relevance, practical application in the real world, and the project's objective.

  2. Development: Students must explain the theory of advertising text, describe the creation process of their campaign (including market research, defining the target audience, creating a concept, and writing the advertising text), detail the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained.

  3. Conclusion: Should summarize the main points of the work, explain the lessons learned, and draw conclusions about the project.

  4. Bibliography: Students must indicate the sources they used to work on the project, whether books, web pages, videos, etc.

In addition to the report, groups need to present the digitally created advertising pieces and organize the ideas and processes that led to their creation in an orderly manner.

The purpose of these deliverables is to complement practice with theoretical and critical reflection, stimulating students' analytical skills and critical thinking.
