Theoretical Introduction

The chronicle is a textual genre characterized by narrating everyday facts in a light and relaxed manner. However, the chronicle can also bring deep reflections on human life and society. It is important to highlight that the chronicle is written in prose and usually in the first person, providing a more personal and intimate tone to the text.

The genre of chronicle can be divided into various subcategories, such as narrative, descriptive, reflexive, humorous, lyrical, etc. Each of them has its particularities and forms of approach, but all carry the essence of the chronicle, which is the contemplation of daily life and ordinary facts.

Furthermore, we must take into account that the chronicle is a textual genre very present in the media and in some types of advertising campaigns, which demonstrates its applicability in the real world and its relevance as an object of study in the classroom.

Contextualization

The chronicle is more than just a textual genre. It is a form of art that reflects reality in a sensitive and poetic way. Studying the chronicle is a way to understand life, society, and the human being from a unique perspective. Writing a chronicle requires intimacy with the language, creativity to transform the everyday into art, and the ability to reflect to question and interpret reality.

In this sense, I believe that this project will be an enriching experience for all students. Composing a chronicle may allow students to express their worldviews, practice their writing skills, and develop a critical and reflective perspective on reality. Furthermore, by working collaboratively, students will enhance their teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Chronicle in Focus

Project Objective

The Chronicle in Focus project aims to develop in students the ability to analyze and produce texts within the chronicle genre, involving the subjects of Portuguese and Arts. It also aims to practice socio-emotional skills such as cooperation, effective communication, time management, and critical thinking.

Detailed Project Description

This project will be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and will last approximately 14 days. The students will develop a thematic newspaper completely focused on chronicles, also involving the production of illustrations to complement the produced chronicles.

Required Materials

1. Notebooks for drafts and brainstorming.
2. Internet access for research and studies.
3. Text editing software (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, etc).
4. Art materials (papers, colored pencils, pens, watercolors, etc) for the illustrations.
5. An email account to send the finalized newspaper.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Completion

1. Individual Study: Each student must conduct individual research on chronicles and their subgenres. For this, the resources suggested in the theoretical introduction can be used.

2. Group Discussion: Next, the groups must gather and share what they have learned, discussing the characteristics of chronicles and the subgenres that caught their attention the most.

3. Theme Definition: Based on the analysis and discussion, each group must choose 3 subgenres of chronicles to work on and define a central theme for their newspaper.

4. Chronicle Production: The groups must write at least three chronicles, one for each chosen subgenre.

5. Illustration Production: While some group members focus on writing the chronicles, the others can start producing the illustrations that will complement the newspaper.

6. Editing and Revision: After the production of the chronicles and illustrations, it is time to compile all the material, review the writing and drawings, and make final edits.

7. Project Submission: Finally, the groups must send the finalized newspaper to the teacher, along with the written report.

Project Deliverables

1. Thematic Newspaper: The main deliverable of this project is the thematic newspaper, which should contain the chronicles and illustrations produced by the group, along with an editorial explaining the choice of theme and subgenres.

2. Written Report: In addition to the newspaper, the groups must submit a report containing:

   • Introduction: The student must contextualize the chosen theme, its relevance, and justify the choice of chronicle subgenres.
   • Development: The student must discuss the theory behind the chronicle and the chosen subgenres, explain the activities carried out, describe the methodology used in the production of chronicles and illustrations, and comment on the results obtained.
   • Conclusion: The student must summarize the main points, reflect on the learnings and difficulties, and interpret the results.
   • Bibliography: The student must indicate the sources used for research and study.
