Conjunction

Contextualization

The project that we present today is about an extremely important part of Portuguese grammar, the Conjunction. Technology and the internet provide us with an infinite number of resources to improve our grammar and make our learning more engaging and fun. In this project, we intend to explore these resources and provide dynamic and engaging learning about conjunctions.

Conjunctions are invariable words that link two sentences or two similar terms in the same sentence, establishing a relationship of dependence or simple coordination between them. They can be classified as coordinative and subordinative, and each has its subclasses with their respective functions. Although it may seem like a small topic, conjunctions play a fundamental role in structuring sentences and texts, being essential for textual cohesion.

Understanding the function and importance of conjunctions goes beyond passing tests or doing well on tests. It is an essential skill for effective and clear communication. Conjunctions are the glue that holds our sentences and ideas together. Without them, our thoughts and ideas may seem disconnected or poorly articulated. With a solid understanding of conjunctions, you will be able to communicate more clearly and effectively, whether in a casual conversation, writing a school report or presenting an argument in a debate.

We recommend using the platform Portuguese at the Tip of the Tongue, which has a section dedicated to conjunctions, with detailed explanations and practical exercises to solidify the concept. In addition, we suggest using explanatory videos on the channel Youtube "Professor Noslen", where he explains the conjunctions in a clear and dynamic way.

Now that we understand the importance of conjunctions and have the appropriate resources, we are ready to embark on this project! Shall we proceed?

Practical Activity

"The Conjunctions Show"

Project Objective

Aiming to solidify the knowledge about conjunctions and the role they play in our language, we suggest the project "The Conjunctions Show". Furthermore, the objective is also to develop collaboration, time management, communication and problem-solving skills.

Project Description

Students will divide into groups of 3 to 5 members and create short theatrical sketches that demonstrate the use and importance of conjunctions in forming sentences and speeches. Each group will be responsible for a specific subtheme: coordinative conjunctions or one of the subclasses of subordinative conjunctions.

Materials Required

  • Paper and pen for the script.
  • Textbooks and internet access for research.
  • Camera to record the sketch (can be a cell phone camera).

Project Step by Step

1. Group Formation and Definition of Subthemes

Each student will join a group of three to five colleagues and the teacher will assign a subtheme to each group.

2. Research and Script Development

Students will research on the assigned subtheme, focusing on the definition of the conjunctions of their subtheme and examples of their use. Then, they will develop a script for the sketch, planning it to last two to five minutes. The script must contain dialogues that demonstrate the use of the conjunctions in the group's subtheme.

3. Sketch Rehearsal and Recording

The group will rehearse the sketch based on the script. After the rehearsal, the sketch will be recorded using a cell phone or similar device.

4. Report Development

Based on the research carried out and the execution of the sketch, each group will prepare a project report containing:

  • Introduction: Description of the subtheme and context of the use of the conjunctions of your subtheme in the Portuguese language. They must express why they chose the conjunctions used and the relevance of these choices.
  • Development: Explanation of the theory about the conjunctions of your subtheme, detailed description of the sketch script, analysis of the methodology and discussion of the results.
  • Conclusions: Review of the main points, analysis of the learning achieved and interpretation of the project results.
  • Bibliography: List of research sources used in the project.

Project Delivery

At the end of the week, the groups must submit the sketch video and the written report for the teacher's evaluation. The sketch video will serve as a form of practical assessment, while the report will allow the theoretical assessment. Emphasis should be given to teamwork, learning about conjunctions and creativity in presenting the sketch.
