Verb voices are an essential part of our grammar, allowing us to work more flexibly with the relationships between the verb and other elements of the sentence. We have three verbal voices: active, passive, and reflexive. The active voice is the most common and has the subject as the agent of the action, the passive voice reorganizes the sentence structure so that the subject is affected by the action, and the reflexive voice is one in which the subject performs the action and also receives it.

By learning about verb voices, you will be able to better understand how ideas are expressed in the Portuguese language. This knowledge will enhance your writing skills, as you will have more tools to express your thoughts effectively.

Furthermore, this project aims to make interdisciplinary connections with another very important discipline: History. Through research in historical texts, you will be able to see verb voices in action and understand their importance for the construction and interpretation of historical facts.

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to consolidate students' understanding of verb voices in the Portuguese language through the study and analysis of historical texts and the production of an original theater script that demonstrates the practical application and understanding of verbal voices.

Detailed Project Description

This project will be developed by groups of 3 to 5 students and is expected to last 3 to 4 weeks (more than twelve hours per student). The activity will be divided into three main parts: research, analysis, and creation.

1. Research: In this stage, groups should research a historical event of their choice, aiming to find original texts (such as letters, diaries, official documents, etc.) that can be analyzed.

2. Analysis: The analysis of these texts should focus on identifying and understanding verb voices, observing how these voices contribute to the overall meaning of the text and the transmission of historical information.

3. Creation: Finally, based on the researched historical event and the analyzed texts, groups should create a short theater script (10-15 minutes long) where all verb voices are used consciously and purposefully. The script should clearly show where and how each verb voice is used.

Required Materials

For the completion of this project, students will need:

1. Internet access for researching historical texts.
2. History and/or grammar books to deepen their studies.
3. Paper and pen for drafts and notes.

Step by Step

1. Group Formation and Theme Selection: Students should form their groups and choose the historical event they wish to research. This choice should be justified and recorded in the final report.

3. Analysis: Students should identify the verb voices in the researched texts, highlighting how the use of different voices contributes to the narrative of the historical event.

4. Script Creation: Based on what was learned in the research and analysis, groups should create a theater script that uses verb voices efficiently and creatively.

5. Report Writing: Alongside the execution of the previous steps, students should prepare a detailed report on the project covering the topics of Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.

Project Deliverables

Groups must deliver two works at the end of the project: the theater script and the written report.

The report should be structured in the following topics:

1. Introduction: Should contain the justification for the choice of the historical event and a brief explanation of verb voices and their importance in the Portuguese language.

2. Development: Here, students will detail the research conducted, the choice of historical texts used, the linguistic analysis performed on these texts, and the process of creating the theater script.

3. Conclusions: Students should conclude the work by summarizing their main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project. It is important to reflect on how the different verb voices contribute to the construction of meaning in the text and how this can be explored creatively in the theater script.
