Activity Title: “The Voice of the Reader”

Project Objective:

This project aims to develop in students the ability to express their opinions and arguments clearly and effectively, through the elaboration of a reader's letter. Students should analyze media materials, identify a subject of their interest, and then plan and write a reader's letter about that subject, applying the concepts learned about the textual genre.

Detailed Project Description:

The groups of students will be guided to choose, together, a report, news, or article published in various media outlets. After the choice, each group should read and deeply discuss the chosen material, understanding its context, the author's position, and the implications of the subject addressed.

From there, students must draft a reader's letter in response to the material read, expressing their perceptions, opinions, praises, criticisms, or suggestions in an argumentative and respectful manner. Students will be encouraged to explore their argumentation skills, idea development, and written expression.

The activity will culminate with the presentation of the letters to the rest of the class, followed by a moderated debate on the issues raised. During the debate, students will be able to defend their points of view, argue with other groups, and practice their speaking and active listening skills.

Necessary Materials:

• Newspapers, magazines, or internet access for researching journalistic material.
• Paper and pen for notes and drafts.
• Computers or tablets for the final writing of the letter.

1. Formation of groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Selection, by the groups, of a media piece (report, article, news) that will be the basis for the Reader's Letter.
3. Group reading and discussion of the chosen material.
4. Planning the Reader's Letter: defining the letter's objective, main arguments, and structure.
5. Writing the Reader's Letter in draft form.
6. Review and editing of the Reader's Letter draft.
7. Final writing of the Reader's Letter.
8. Presentation of the letter and debate in the classroom.
9. Writing the project report.

Project Deliverables and Connection with Activities:

At the end of the project, students must submit the written reader's letter and a report document on the activity.

The report should contain the following items:

1. Introduction: Brief presentation about the reader's letter, the chosen material for analysis, and the project's objective.
