However, before we proceed, we must first understand what it means to 'read and understand'.

Reading goes far beyond the simple act of decoding graphic symbols or words, it is a process of interaction between the reader and the text, aiming to construct meanings from what is read. Understanding, on the other hand, is the ability to understand, grasp, or capture the meaning of what has been read. In this sense, reading and understanding involve a set of skills and strategies used to understand the author's message, connect our own knowledge and experiences to that message, as well as understand the structural organization of the text.

Now, let's understand the importance of this in our lives. Reading and understanding texts are part of our daily lives, whether in textbooks, novels, news, text messages, emails, etc. They are essential for the academic success of students, as many disciplines require reading and understanding texts of various complexities. Project Objective

This project aims to develop the central skill of reading and understanding texts, exploring different literary genres. Through practice, students will be challenged to interpret and understand the selected texts, to later present their conclusions in a report format.

Detailed Project Description

In this practical activity, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, where each group will receive a different literary genre (short stories, fables, novels, poetry, science fiction, etc.). Each group will be responsible for selecting two books that represent their genre well and conducting an in-depth study of both. After reading the books, students should develop a reading and comprehension report, which will include the presentation of the literary genre, the discussion of the books read, and the conclusions regarding the reading process.

Required Materials

1. Books selected by the groups.
2. Internet access for research of complementary material.
3. Paper and pen for notes.
4. Computer or tablet for report writing.

Detailed Step-by-Step

1. Group Formation: Form groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for working with a different literary genre.

2. Book Selection: Each group must select two books that represent the assigned literary genre well.

3. Study of the Books: The selected books should be read and analyzed by all group members. Each member should make notes on the most relevant aspects of the reading.

The project is estimated to last one month, with a recommended dedication of five to ten hours per week per student. The final report must be submitted to the teacher at the end of this period.
