Contextualization
Technology has been a constant influence on the evolution of art, it is a factor in artistic creation that has been reinventing itself over time. Technology not only influences the way art is created, but also how it is seen, interpreted, and shared. Therefore, it is relevant to make the connection between technology and art, as both are a reflection of culture and society.
Throughout the history of art, we have seen several moments where the evolution of technology has changed the way we conceive and appreciate art. For example, the invention of photography in the 19th century changed the way artists portrayed reality, while the arrival of cinema, and later television and video, created new means for artists to express their ideas and feelings.
Importance of the Theme
In today's world, marked by digitization and the ubiquity of technology, this connection between art and technology has never been stronger. With the advent of the internet, artists now have at their disposal a variety of new means and platforms to create and disseminate their art. Furthermore, digital technology has also enabled the creation of new forms of art, such as digital arts and video game art.
Technology has not only changed the way art is produced, but also the way it is consumed. Today, anyone with internet access can virtually visit museums, galleries, and art exhibitions around the world. In addition, technology allows the artworks themselves to be interactive, involving the viewer more directly in the artistic experience.
Atividade Prática
Activity Title: Bringing Art to Life - The Connection between Art and Technology
Project Objective
Students must create an artistic representation, such as a painting, sculpture, or drawing, in a traditional physical format and then, using digital technologies, transform it into an interactive digital artwork.
This activity aims to allow students to explore the relationship between art and technology, understanding how technology can be used to expand the possibilities of artistic expression. The project will challenge students to connect concepts of visual arts, technology, and basic programming.
Detailed Project Description
Students will create an artwork in a traditional way (drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.) and then, using digital art software or application, such as Photoshop or Art Rage, they will digitize and modify the original artwork to create an interactive digital version.
The digital artwork must be interactive, meaning it should allow the viewer to interact with the artwork in some way, whether by changing colors, shapes, textures, or even the position of elements in the artwork.
The project should be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and should last approximately 3 weeks (12 hours per student).
Required Materials
- Traditional art materials (paper, pencils, paints, clay, etc.)
- Device for digitizing the artwork (scanner, cell phone camera, etc.)
- Computer with digital art software/app installed
- Internet access for research and sharing the final artwork.
Step by Step
-
Planning: Students should research the relationship between art and technology, as well as explore different forms of interactive digital art. This research will serve as a theoretical basis for the project.
-
Creation of the physical artwork: Students must create the physical artwork. The art can represent any theme, however, it must take into consideration how it will be digitally transformed.
-
Digitization of the artwork: The physical art must be digitized. In other words, it must be transformed into a digital image that can be manipulated in the digital art software.
-
Creation of the interactive digital artwork: Using the digital art software, students must modify the digitized artwork and add interactive elements to the artwork.
-
Presentation of the artwork: The final step consists of presenting the artworks (physical and digital). Students must explain the meaning of their artworks, the influence of technology on the outcome, and the creation process.
Project Deliverables
At the end of the project, students must deliver:
- The physical artwork
- The interactive digital artwork
- A written report detailing the creation process, the theory behind the project, and the conclusions drawn.
The report should follow the suggested format of Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography. In the Introduction, students should contextualize the relationship between art and technology and the relevance of the theme. In the Development section, they should detail the step-by-step of the project, the methodology, and the results obtained. In the Conclusions section, students should discuss what they learned during the project execution and the importance of technology in the artistic creation process. Finally, the Bibliography should contain all references used during the research and project execution.
It is expected that students acquire important technical skills, such as handling digital technologies and resources, as well as the ability to analyze and discuss the influence of technology on art. Additionally, through teamwork, students should develop social skills such as communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, among others.
