The art of theater has existed for thousands of years and continues to be a powerful form of expression and communication in our current society. Theater is a space where stories are told, emotions are expressed, and ideas are challenged. But have you ever stopped to think about what the function of theater is? Well, that's what we're going to explore together in this project!

In theater, actors bring characters to life to transport us to different worlds, inspire us, and make us think. Through it, we can explore different cultures, eras, and perspectives. Plays can make us laugh, cry, feel fear, and even change our worldview. Theater, therefore, can be considered a tool for education, awareness, communication, and the expression of human diversity.

But theater is not just about the actors on stage. Every theatrical production has a team behind it that contributes to the realization of the show. Furthermore, there is also an important social role that theater plays, through stimulating critical thinking, promoting dialogue, and confronting values and prejudices.

Various disciplines intertwine in theater. There is language and literature in the script, history in the settings and costumes, and art in all aspects of stage design. Additionally, theater stimulates empathy and understanding, as actors need to put themselves in the place of their characters, and the audience starts to see the world through different perspectives.

In this project, you will have the opportunity to explore the different functions of theater, understanding its relevance and application in the real world. More than that, you will be challenged to create a small show and analyze the process of producing and staging a theatrical piece.

Activity: 'Discovering and Experiencing Theater'

Objective

To understand, in a practical and theoretical way, the function of theater, exploring its different facets - from scriptwriting to acting, through directing and producing. Also learning about the social role of theater and the relevance of collaborative work.

Project Description

Students must create and perform a small theater piece that explores a relevant social theme, chosen by the group. The group must research the problem, choose the characters, write the script, rehearse, and present the play. All group participants must actively participate in at least two different roles in the theatrical process.

Required Materials

• Resources for research (books, internet)
• Paper and pen for notes and script development
• Space for rehearsals and presentation
• Materials for set, costume, and props (items that can be found at home or at school)

Step by Step

1. Group Formation and Theme Selection: Students must organize into groups of 3 to 5 participants and choose a relevant social theme to be explored in the play.
2. Research: Students must research the chosen theme to understand the issue in depth. The research must be documented and will be part of the final report.
3. Character Creation and Script Development: Using the research as a base, students must develop the characters and the story that will be told in their play. Each group must also decide who will take on each role in the theatrical process, with each student performing at least two distinct roles.
4. Rehearsals: Groups must rehearse their play until they feel comfortable with the presentation.
5. Set Production and Assembly: Using the available resources, each group must set up the stage and provide the necessary props for the presentation.
6. Presentation: Each group must present their theatrical piece to the class.
7. Report: After the presentation, each group must prepare a detailed report on the project, following the structure explained below.

Submission and Report

In addition to the presentation, the final submission will consist of the written report. The report must follow the following structure:

1. Introduction: Describe the chosen social theme, its relevance, how it connects to the function of theater, and what the project's objective was.
2. Development: Explain in detail the theory behind the theme, describe the activity (script development, rehearsals, production, and presentation of the play), the methodology used, and discuss the results obtained, including the analysis of the roles in theater and the challenges encountered.
3. Conclusion: Reflect on the learnings, the main points of the project, and the conclusions drawn about the function of theater.
4. Bibliography: Indicate the sources used as a basis for the project.

This report is a crucial part of the project as it allows students to consolidate their knowledge, reflect on their experiences, and communicate their ideas in a written manner.
