Theater can be a powerful tool for social activism, raising important issues and challenging dominant cultural norms and values. In other words, theater is a microcosm of society; it reflects the tensions, conflicts, joys, and sorrows of human life.

It also helps promote mental resilience, allowing people to explore different realities and viewpoints in a safe and encouraging manner.

Project Objective:

To explore and deeply understand the function of theater through the creation, development, and presentation of a theatrical piece.

The activity aims at collaboration and engagement of the students, emphasizing teamwork, time management, problem-solving, as well as the development of technical skills related to theater production and performance.

Detailed Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, and each group will be responsible for creating and presenting a theatrical piece. The piece should explore a socially relevant theme for the students, such as violence, racism, gender inequality, among others, and should last between 10 and 15 minutes.

Required Materials:

• Access to the library or internet for research;
• Writing materials for scripts;
• Rehearsal space;
• Costumes and sets (can be improvised with recyclable materials);
• Camera for recording the performance (optional).

Step by Step:

1. Research and Planning (3 hours): Students should start by researching the chosen theme. Then, they should discuss the structure of the piece, the characters, and the message they want to convey. After that, they should write the script.

2. Rehearsal (5 hours): After defining the script, it's time to rehearse. Each student should choose a role to play in the piece - it can be an actor, director, costume designer, or set designer. Rehearsals should be held in the chosen space, which can be the classroom, the schoolyard, or another suitable place.

3. Assembly and Performance (2 hours): In this stage, the group should set up the set and costumes. Once everything is ready, it's time to present the piece. The performance can be recorded for later analysis and discussion.

Students should prepare a report on the project, addressing the following points:

1. Introduction: Contextualization of the chosen theme, justification for the choice, and its relevance and application in current society.

2. Development: An explanation of the process of creating and developing the piece. Additionally, a discussion should be made on how the project allowed the exploration of the function of theater.

It is up to the group to divide the tasks for writing the report, with one student being responsible for each part of the report or all members collaborating on all parts.
