Our current society lives in a regime of globalization, where the borders between nations are becoming increasingly blurred, and commercial, cultural, and social relationships cross these borders more easily. However, this does not necessarily mean that everyone benefits in the same ways. Globalization has also increased the visibility of existing social inequalities, both among nations and among individuals within the same nation.

In the globalized environment, where multinational corporations and global economic organizations play such an important role, it is essential to understand how they operate and what is the impact of their actions on society and the individual. Thus, it is crucial that we learn to analyze and understand these dynamics, in order to be more informed about the decisions we make as citizens and consumers.

Understanding and questioning inequality in the globalized world is a way to realize how our lives are influenced by macro and microeconomic factors. When we understand these processes, we have the opportunity to act more consciously and critically, contributing to the construction of a fairer and more equitable society.

Understanding the world we live in is the first step to understanding ourselves and the different ways we interact with each other. That is why the study of inequality in the globalized world is so important - so that we can better understand the world we live in and, thus, make informed decisions about how to act within it.

Practical Activity: Analysis of Globalized Inequality

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to provide a contextualized view of inequality in a globalized world. Students should analyze how corporations and economic organizations affect people's lives and observe how culture and mobility are influenced by these global entities. In addition, students will be challenged to identify cultural manifestations of ethnic minorities and understand cultural multiplicity on a global scale.

Detailed Project Description

Students, in groups of 3 to 5, should choose a developing country and a developed country to analyze and compare inequality in each of them.

The project will be divided into two main parts: research on the chosen countries and the creation of a presentation on the topic.

Required Materials

Groups will need internet access to conduct research and, if desired, to create a digital presentation (such as using PowerPoint, Prezi, etc).

Step by Step

1. Research: each group should research statistical, historical, and cultural data about a developed country and a developing country. This research should provide information on the role of international corporations and global economic organizations in people's lives regarding consumption, culture, and mobility.

2. Data Analysis: students should make a comparison of the two countries, highlighting the observed inequalities. At this point, they should develop bar and pie charts, thematic and schematic maps to illustrate the inequalities.

3. Cultural Study: students should identify different cultural manifestations of ethnic minorities in each chosen country to understand cultural multiplicity.

4. Presentation: groups should create a presentation based on their research and analysis. This presentation should include an introduction to the topic, the methodology used, the analysis of the collected data, and their conclusions on inequality in the globalized world.

5. Final Report: each group must prepare a written report reflecting the research and presentation. This document should contain four parts: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used. In the development section, all stages of the project should be described, from the selection of countries, the criteria for choosing them, the methodology used, data analysis, to the difficulties encountered during the project execution. In the conclusion, lessons learned, results obtained, and observations on the topic of inequality in the globalized world should be reported.

The project duration is one week. Students should manage their time so that all proposed activities are completed on time.
