Agriculture, one of the most important sectors of the world economy, is responsible for directly providing food, both for humans and other living beings. It encompasses all processes associated with the production of food and raw materials, ranging from animal husbandry to plant cultivation. The diversity of techniques and practices adopted, as well as the different types of crops and animal husbandry, reflect an intricate global variability. The distribution of these practices and products is not homogeneous, but is related to a series of factors, such as climate, topography, the availability of technology, and, no less important, the socioeconomic framework in which they occur.

The distribution of world agriculture is therefore an essential theme for understanding many of the challenges we face today in terms of development, food security, and sustainability. Furthermore, the study of agriculture connects to other disciplines such as geography, agriculture, social sciences, economics, and environmental sciences, thus providing an interdisciplinary approach to addressing the problem.

Simultaneously, the issue of global hunger is another face of this problem. Although global food production is more than sufficient to feed the entire world population, there are still thousands of people who suffer from hunger, mainly in poorer regions. Food insecurity, resulting from both inadequate food distribution and social inequalities, is an urgent challenge.

This project, therefore, aims to explore the relationship between the distribution of world agriculture and hunger, with the goal of providing a more comprehensive and integrated understanding of these issues. Through team research and oral presentations, you will have the opportunity to further investigate the reality of agriculture and food insecurity in different parts of the world, as well as consider ways to address these challenges.

Practical Activity

Activity Title:

"Agro-World: Agriculture and Hunger on the Global Board"

Project Objective:

Study the distribution of world agriculture and its relationship with food security, developing collaboration, communication, data analysis, and critical thinking skills.

Detailed Project Description:

A board game will be organized in which each group of students represents a country or region and must seek to balance agricultural production and ensure food security. Each group will have its "territory," where they can cultivate, raise animals, and negotiate with other groups. The challenge will be to find the best strategy to achieve the proposed objectives, considering geography, climate, and the technical and human resources available.

During the project development, groups must conduct detailed research on agriculture and food security in the region they represent. The research should address aspects such as main agricultural products, technologies used in production, problems related to food security, among others.

At the end of the project, each group must present a written report and an oral presentation about the country or region they represented, reporting their strategies, successes, challenges, and learnings during the game.

Materials Needed:

• Computers with internet access
• Materials for building the game board (cardboard, markers, tape, etc.)
• Writing materials (pen, pencil, paper)
• Projector for the final presentations

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.

2. Each group must choose a country or region to represent in the game.

3. Groups should research agriculture and food security in the region they chose.

4. Based on the research, each group must develop a strategy for the game, seeking to balance agricultural production and food security.

5. Develop the game board, representing the different regions and available resources.

6. Play! During the game, groups must negotiate, make decisions, and face challenges related to agriculture and food security.

7. At the end of the game, each group must prepare an oral presentation about their strategy and results in the game.

8. Presentations should be held on a prearranged date.

9. After the presentations, each group must write a detailed report on the project, with an introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography.

Project Deliverables:

• Oral Presentation: each group must make a 15 to 20-minute presentation, reporting their strategy and results in the game. The presentation should include information about the region represented, the research conducted, the decisions made, and the challenges faced.

• Written Report: each group must deliver a detailed report, which should include:

  1. Introduction: Describe the region represented, the theme, and the project objective.
  2. Development: Detail the research conducted, the strategies adopted, the challenges faced, and the results obtained. It should also include the interpretation and analysis of the graphs and maps used.
  3. Conclusions: Explain what the learnings were, how this knowledge can be applied in the real world, and your opinions on the distribution of world agriculture and hunger.
  4. Bibliography: Cite all sources used in the research.

The project should be carried out over three months, with research, games, discussions, and preparation of final deliverables.
